Goodness, where on earth do you look to find all this information, I can't thank you enough and am planning a visit in the not to distant future to Winchester to see if I can find copies of this information you have so kindly told me about.
I am still trying to find any record 'online' of a son born to Richard and Sarah called Stephen 1740'ish, it would make more sense that these are his parents, timeline is right and the area is right, just need to find something to confirm it.
Thanks for your help.
Sue

You have all been so kind, and I really do appreciate your help.
One question, would I be able to see the bapt. parish records at the records office in Winchester rather than Southampton as it would be easier for me to get there?  It has given me at least some directions to explore.
I have never been able to match those 3 different families up, although I have researched them, and I have never found a Stephen born to any of them, this has given me a little more hope.
Thanks so much
Sue

Thank you so much, all this information has given me food for thought, such a nuisance not being able to be sure whether you have the right link.
I have looked the Stoke Charity one up and found parents and siblings for this Stephen, all his own children (my Stephen) have the same names as either siblings or parents of both himself (if he is the Stoke Charity Stephen) and Rachel Ford (his wife) EXCEPT their oldest child called Richard, can't find anyone called that in either the Stoke Charity family, or Rachel Ford's family  :-\
Does that make sense?
If I could pin the Richard on a Stoke Charity family member (or Rachel Fords family) I would be sooooooooo happy  ;D
I am glad I am not the only one whose family have arrived from nowhere, makes you wonder where on earth they suddenly appeared from doesn't it.

Thanks for your help, the Rachel Ford I had found aged 11 was the most likely candidate for me, but the age did worry me, I know that a girl could of been 13 or 14 when they married back then, but 11 did seem a little young.  I hadn't thought of the baptism being later and it hadn't given the date of birth, although I had found somewhere a possible date of birth of 1742 (but can't remember where I got it).

Thank you so much for taking the time to reply.
I had seen that Steven from Stoke Charity before but wasn't sure if it would of been too far away, would the Binsted parish records cover Stoke Charity do you know?
I really do appreciate the help, this has been driving me mad.

I wonder if anyone can help - I am researching the Cole family tree from Binsted Hampshire.  I have got back to Stephen (Steven) Cole (and it's variations of that surname spelling) married to Rachel Ford.
I am trying to find Stephen's parents and siblings if possible.  I have been to Winchester records office several times with no luck, searched the internet, but all I can find is the record of their marriage, Stephen Cole b abt. 1740 married to Rachel Ford b abt. 1742 married 4-10-1762 Binsted.
It's almost as though they came from nowhere.  I have found a Rachel Ford c: 11-7-1752 East Meon, but that would of made her 11 when she got married and her first child Richard was born 1763, so I am dubious this can be the right lady.
I have been searching for a couple of years now with no luck.  I do know that there is a Cole family in Twyford, but I am not sure if there is a connection.
Can anyone help, this is driving me crazy going round in circles?
