Lincolnshire Lookup Requests / An Abundance of John Smiths! Help requested.
« on: Monday 25 July 16 18:48 BST (UK)  »
Several factors have made tracing my family tree difficult. The thing causing the most problems, however, is the fact that several of my ancestors are called 'John Smith', and that these John Smiths are descended directly from each other!  ::)

John James Smith married Edith Bottomley on Christmas Day 1932. John James was born in 1906, making him 26 at the time of the marriage, and Edith was born in 1908, making her 24.
John James Smith's father was John William Smith (grr!).

If anyone could find out anything else about John William Smith from this (admittedly scant) information, I would be so so so grateful!

Cheers,
Jimmy

Rosie, Suz -- thanks! This information is spectacular -- exactly what I've been looking for!

I've been searching around on the rest of the site and I've found a discussion from a few years back about a Christopher Wilson & co from Hull:

The OP mentions that most of the family could later be found at Louth. Does this seem to be a good, reliable lead?

Best,
James

Hi there, I'm tracing the ancestry of my relatives, the Wilson family of Grimsby and North Lincolnshire.

Christopher Wilson was born in 1844 in Louth, Lincolnshire and in 1867 married Elizabeth (nee Paddison), born in 1841 to Thomas Ostler Paddison and Mary Paddison (nee Sergeant). Christopher was a plasterer/'platerer'. They had several children together, including Herbert and Tom. Herbert died in 1916. Elizabeth died in 1929, and Christopher himself died in 1932.

I'm especially curious about Christopher Wilson because I can presently find no information about his parents. Herbert is also interesting -- Christopher, Elizabeth, and Herbert were interned together after Herbert's death. If any information could be found in censuses, etc, about any of the people mentioned above, I would be so so grateful!  :D

Cheers,
James
