Warwickshire Lookup Requests / Re: Grays department store - Gray family
« on: Wednesday 13 September 23 12:20 BST (UK)  »
I have been searching my partners tree and found that Edward is connected however his name is Edward Charles Greey born 1856 Bow, London. Marries Ann Hammett 1877 Hackney. Occupation Draper. he has at least 8 children born in the various places he moves to : Bedfordshire, Lancashire, Manchester and Birmingham.  Those children are:
Albert E  bn 1879 London
Horace B 1881 Bedfordshire
Arthur A bn 1882 Bedfordshire
Frederick L bn 1885 Glasgow, Lanarkshire
Annie Evangeline 1889 Manchester
Eliza Constance 1891 Manchester
Mary D 1895 Birmingham

My partners connection with this family is though Edward Charles Greey's wife  Ann Hammett Mother Ann Pett bn 1820 Shebbear Devon - d 1866 Ann Hammett bn 1855 Crediton Devon, is her only child her father Simeon Hammett went on to marry another Ann. And that is where our connection lies with Ann Pett his first wife.

I hope this helps

Rachel

P S  I would like to ask you a question if that is alright?   My partner Michael Pett has done a DNA test and has found many matches however there seems to be a question mark over his connection with the Pett family but we have only found one on this branch, I wonder have you done one on any site if so which one Ancestry or My Heritage ?

Warwickshire / Re: Blackburn Plumb missing birth
« on: Thursday 29 November 18 14:42 GMT (UK)  »
I can not find Blackburn's birth either however I do have something that may help, although a bit weak.  Blackburn is my partners 6th G Grandfather. He also has another marriage connection with another set of Plumbs in the mid 1800's an Elizabeth Plumb, Although they come from the exact same  area no immediate connection with the first family was found at that time.  My partner did a DNA test with Ancestry.com (not for this reason but it plays a part in this) and he got lots of matches one with a member who has an Elizabeth Plumb in his tree a member of the Plumbs who he is married into and where no DNA should match up, also a lot closer than the DNA indicates. which predicts 5th to 8th cousins so pretty far off.  Anyway this sparks of interest and I start looking up Elizabeth Plumbs tree. when we get back to Blackburn's age and birth around 1725 +/- I find a John Plumb who marries Ann Jones in Ettington Warwickshire residing in Alverston Warwickshire  in 1742. There is a John Plumb in Blackburn's marriage records is it too far a jump? bearing in mind the DNA connection and that brothers/sisters are often the ones to witness each others weddings and the fact that this would make the person with the DNA connection with my partner 7th cousins exactly what the DNA predicted. would this be proof enough make John Plumb and Blackburn Plumb brothers.  I also believe Anne White to have been born in 1734 to a John White and Anne Halford. John dies before his daughters marriage leaving Anne a Widow and Anne her daughter 20 years old at her marriage and not yet 21 years a full adult. And also because it is a couple of years before she has her first child this is not because she is pregnant but to fit in with seasons and work before her next birthday and she holds having children to make this point to her community giving out what type of person she is. This is a theory I am working on John's records may have been ruined also he must be Blackburn's elder Brother to have married in 1742. There is a John born in 1718 but there are a couple others  also the possibility that that is wrong and hisbirth records are destroyed also .  Food for thought anyway  Rachel

The Lighter Side / Re: The worst Ancestry transcription ever?
« on: Thursday 29 December 16 19:37 GMT (UK)  »
Found an old guy, well he wasn't always old but in my mind he is. he doesn't get married and stays as a lodger for over 30 years at the same place, on all of the census's he gives his place of birth as Londonderry Worcestershire, at first I didn't question it and just thought there is a small place there called Londonderry I have never heard of, but then I looked for it nothing. then in his final years he is in workhouse it is only then corrected crossed out to (Londonderry Ireland) but this was on the original . I thought this was quite sad really as he probably joked about coming form Londonderry Worcester.

Hi,
just a note to say that reading comment again I would like to say that as coincidence's would have it My Nathan was the one that the person who started this line of conversation is the Nathan that they  didn't want, I would also like to say that Essex records are online on  "SEAX": BMD that is but you do have to pay or you can go into Chelmsford Record office for free.

Hi thanks for your reply it does I think solve a question if Nathan born to William and Mary did indeed die in 1859 I will search for that record I did of course look for it before as soon as I knew there were 2 Nathan's but found nothing so. He is in the 1851 census living with Mary and Mynott and my Great Grandfather William Harvey, his mother is Sarah Harvey a sister of Nathan who I know to be born in 1836 from a newspaper cutting of his father, William's trial. Nathan bn in 1835 and apprentice to Joseph Prime must as you say a different Nathan whose father must be Joseph Harvey as you have mentioned and an unknown mother, As I do know for certain it is not William Harvey bn 1790 Elmdon. Just for interest There are a lot of Harvey's who have done work for various Prime families in my tree. Also there a few Nathan's in the tree so it is likely they are related. Thank you Rachel

Nathan is still living with His mother Mary Harvey and his brother in 1851 however it is spelt Hathern Harvey bn 1836 and his brother's name is spelt Minet Harvey bn 1834. their father is a William Harvey bn 1790 Elmdon who got Transported for life along with 2 sons to Australia in those records it says he has 10 children these are as follows: James 1811, Samuel 1814, William 1818 Stephen 1820, Sarah 1825, Henry 1826 Joseph 1828 Thomas 1830, Mynott or Minet 1832 and Nathan 1836.  My guess about Nathan Harvey who is working as an apprentice is either a cousin or the head of both households have included them in their account. The Harvey's have done work for the Primer family in previous census's but mainly farm work.
