London & Middlesex Lookup Requests / Re: Mary Lewis Date of death
« on: Sunday 23 June 13 10:20 BST (UK)  »
Thanks for all the help you have provided . Would have replied earlier but have had computer problems that took a while to fix.
I am guessing she was born Lambeth as shown 1851 census, married in Rotherhithe to George Aaron Lewis (his birthplace) and died in North St. Poplar where they were living between 1851 and 1861.
I think I will have to try to buy George Aaron Lewis and Mary Phillips wedding cert if I can get the correct date, hopefully showing "Ann" or not.

Thanks again

Hi

I'm trying to find when Mary Lewis nee Phillips died. She was born in Lambeth 1801, married George A Lewis (date approx 1820) and died in Poplar between the 1851 and 1861 census. George A Lewis was born in 1798 in Rotherhithe. Any help would be much appreciated

London and Middlesex / John and Ann Lewis Rotherhithe 1760 to 1798
« on: Saturday 15 December 12 04:58 GMT (UK)  »
George Aaron Lewis (shipwright) born 18.2.1798 Rotherhithe bap 11.3.1798 St Mary Rotherhithe. Parents John Lewis (carpenter) and Ann. Family appears to be involved with shipbuilding and later victualling. (George's son a grocer and later licensed victualler)

I'm desperately trying to find out more about the parents such as Ann's maiden name, marriage date, birth dates. Seem to have lived in the Rotherhithe and Bermondsey area.

So far no luck, any ideas?

Hi

From the records I have seen Sarah Rocke (nee Jennings) and Andrew Rocke called their first daughter Mary Ellen second daughter Sarah and their third child (a boy) Samuel Matthew possibly after the parents Mary and Samuel and Sarah herself which tends to suggest the Sarah Jennings from St Ives is the correct one as the name Mary does not appear in the "Sea Queen" Jennings family from Clapham, Surrey. This is only supposition and not factual proof though.

It was Sarah Elizabeth Jennings who migrated on The "Sea Queen" and I have not seen Sarah Rocke referred to as Sarah Elizabeth Rocke except in this online public tree.

I'm puzzled by this change of name in by deedpoll  from 'Rocci'. From my memory I think this was supposed to have happened in 1952.  Andrew Rocke  died in 1903 and previous to Rocke the surname used was Roche.

Australia / Sarah Jennings marriage 6.4.1867

Could you help me find out which Sarah Jennings married Andrea Roche (also known by the name Andrew Gregory Rocke) in Adelaide on 6.4.1867

I believe the marriage record shows her father as Samuel Jennings which would match a Sarah Jennings age 7 who migrated with her family to Adelaide from Clapham London on the ship "Sea Queen" arriving at Port Adelaide 25.3.1850. Father shown as Samuel Jennings.

However Sarah Rocke (nee Jennings) died 16.6.1920 in Perth W.A. where her obituary in "The Daily News" newspaper states she was born in St Ives Cornwall and migrated to Adelaide age 19 on the ship "Peeress"arriving in Port Adelaide 9.7.1865

The obituary also states she died at the age of 86 which would be wrong for both the Sarahs. Surely there can't be a third Sarah Jennings who arrived in Adelaide at that time! It would be very interesting to know what the incorrect Sarah Jennings' marriage or death records show - could help identify the correct one.

Hope you can shed some light on this,

Trying to find out the burial date for Lydia Gubbins (nee Benson).

I think it is about early 1830's. She married George Gubbins - Holdenhurst 1815 I believe they may have lived in the Ringwood area

Rhonda May

Thanks very much Rhonda, well spotted. I will investigate the Wentworth district on the NSW records. A William registered Bathurst 1856 could be of interest too. Age would be right.
