Hi Sarah,

Thanks for that.... can you please tell me how to get back to the old messages without having to troll through 3 years of posts  :o and...
what is the best site to get information older than 1813? I need info from 1780 and beyond.  I am not fortunate to live in the UK (it is on my bucket list to visit in the future!!) and get to my roots in Northumberland/Durham.
I am an ancestry.co.uk  subscriber but cannot find what I am looking for?
Kindest regards

Durham / been away a long time
« on: Friday 13 September 13 12:52 BST (UK)  »
Hi all,
I have just returned to this site after many years away from working on my family history.. in fact its 3 years!!And now I am back  ;D
I was looking through some information i had gathered and for the life of me I do not know how or where i got it.  I am hoping that some one may be of help...
I have traced back by 5xggrandfather Samuel Ord christened 30.11.1783 married Christian Robson 26.03.1805 then remarried Sarah Fisher 25.05.1818.  I have all the relevant information from this date forward.. then I noticed I had Samuels brothers & sisters ... I need this confirmed if I can
Father EDWARD ORD (looks like wife Mary???) Lamesley St Andrew
Children THOMAS ORD (Chowdean) 27.06.1773
             JOSEPH ORD  (Chowdean Foot) 07.04.1776
             MARY ORD (Eighton Banks) 23.03.1777
             GEORGE ORD (Eighton ) 02.05.1779
             ALEXANDER ORD (Eighton) 10.05.1781
             EDWARD ORD (Cow Close) 29.01.1786
             JOSEPH ORD (Cow Close) 15.03.1789
             JOHN ORD (Cow Close) 22.01.1788

Can I ask....1)  Are the Birth places close to each other
                  2)  Can anyone confirm these are Samuels brothers & sisters or am i barking up the wrong tree lol!!  As I said not sure how I got this info  :-\
If I am on the right track how then will I find any information on the father EDWARD ORD - I have literally searched every where I know to no avail... he does not seem to exist - that is why I thought maybe I was wrong..
Cheers for any help

Hi Barbara,
Sorry I forgot to mention, that from the birth of Thomas & Joseph @ Chowdean and not just from Mary on...... I checked Google Earth maps and found that from Chowden, Eighton Banks and Cow Close they are all relatively close (by my standards and using a car) I'm not sure how long by horse and cart if they had one at all - all my descendants have been coal miners, so obviously not of upper or middle class. ;D ;D ;D

Hi Barbara,
Thank you very much for your information.  It would seem that from 1777 with the birth of Mary at Eighton Banks to 1788 with the birth of John at Cow Close these may be the children of Edward Ord as we have the names of Mary, George, Alexander, Samuel, Edward right through our line, however, no Joseph or John seems to follow the line.  I was searching on IGI and may have the marriage of George Ord b 1779 to Martha Robson on 28.5.1803 with children Mary, Ralph, Luke, Joseph, Jane & Isabella all born Chester Le Street.  The above names are also following our line (Ralph is my fathers name,  my ggrandfather name and gggrandfathers name) and I actually wondered where the name originated from as it just appeared, so it could have been from the childred of Edward Ord & Mary.............. with my research so far (at least 3.5 years) I have noted that names are very important in the family line.

My 5 x ggrandfather Samuel Ord born 1783 Lamesley also married a Christian Robson (bastard daughter of Mary Robson) in 1805 in Chester Le Street and have been trying to make a connection with the Martha Robson that his brother married in 1803?????  - Its very tenuous at best, but stranger things have happened in our family (my ggrandfather Ralph Watson Ord married Jane Anne Ranson and his brother Edward Alexander Ord married her sister Margery Ranson) so it does happen!! ::)

I understand you have furnished me with a heap of detail, however, do you have access to any other marriages for Edward & Mary......

With kindest regards for all your help ;D

Durham / Where do I turn to? Samuel Ord
« on: Wednesday 20 May 09 05:32 BST (UK)  »
Hi all,
I am trying to search for Samuel Ord born 30/11/1783 Lamesley Chester Le Street (my 5xg grandfather)

Firstly I have his 2 marriages - one to Christian Robson in 1805 and the other to Sarah Fisher in 1818
I also have all their children.....

I have searched & spent years looking for his father and mother (i know this is nothing new!!) - his father is Edward Ord - and THATS IT!!!! I have looked in the Pilot Search on IGI & it seems that 1783 is missing from the registers (after trawling through hundreds of pages & hours of time) - I have checked the Birth register through GENUKI & it states "Samuel son of Edward"  ??? I do realise that they did not register the wife or mothers name of the child.

Is this all the information I am ever going to get?? where do I turn next - please?? I am hoping that some kind person will have bishops records or the like

Is there a way of going back further for more information on my tree without doing a  trip to the UK

Thank you in anticipation
Kind regards
