Guy,

For a long time I thought we were going to see the household schedules, but I now understand what's being digitised is the enumerator's transcript books (RG 101)

I can't see much evidence here that any records are going to be destroyed. Maybe someone should seek clarification with the authors of the document as to what was meant by the statement, otherwise it's nothing more than speculation.

From what I can understand all we will see is the register produced in 1939, and not any related registers. So people who were not in the household in 1939 would not be recorded on the register.

Hi sarah,

I'm sorry to bother you again but I attempted to post a link to a genealogy website this weekend and it hasn't shown up on the Useful Links part of the site. I was wondering if you could explain how to have a link put on there.

Thanks.

I don't think there is a 2015 version yet.

The 2014 version is offered on the the Family Tree Maker website here, and it shows the system requirements:

    Windows 7 (32-bit or 64-bit) or Windows 8 (32-bit or 64-bit)
Hard disk space: 675 MB for installation
    Memory: 1 GB RAM
    Display 1024 x 768 resolution
    DVD Drive
    Internet connection required

This means it probably won't work as well on Windows Vista.

A lot of programs work with Windows Vista and most should import GEDCOMs. I like RootsMagic, and it says it's compatible with Vista. You can try out the free version, RootsMagic Essentials.

It costs a lot to digitise an enormous record set like the 1939 Register, so it shouldn't be surprising that we'll have to pay more for a subscription when it when it is released. But over time the cost will come down, as it did for the 1911 census. You just have to be patient and resist the urge to access all the records you want the moment it is released.

Is it normal to have to wait 24+ hours for a message to be approved by a moderator and posted? My post still says "This message is awaiting approval by a moderator." I tried the report to moderator button but that did not work.

I hope this is an ok place to put this. As you can see I am struggling to use the site.

Looks like John Simes, his name is spelled John Syme/Symes elsewhere.
