Put what you think that you see? Really? that does surprise me. Local knowledge would help with street names and local areas and looking at other words and how they are written would help with silly workmistakes such as one i found yesterday.
Jessy, a girl was transcribed as Jerry a boy. It was quite clear but it was just sloppy work. More accuracy and less speed!

I am always amused when they show direct connections through to royalty in this case around 30 generations back. WDYTYA are well aware that Kings and Queens removed and added descendants to fit in with their preferred ancestors. Whole lines were sometimes removed and replaced with a better one. Always take these trees with two pinches of salt!

A local adjudicator is an excellent idea!

I cannot see amy specific mention of him but he is presumably one of the surviving children....
The more wills that i read the more people that you would expect to be mentioned by name, are not!

So far all my research is in England, in Leicestershire, Derbyshire, Nottinghamshire and Lincolnshire! I would love someone in an exotic location, perhaps one day!

the information given and recorded by the local authority varies.I was surprised just how many can be buried in the same plot but when you think about it, an awful lot of people have been buried over the years and they must be somewhere! A local cemetery has 4,000 burials but i would guess about 100 or so headstones, no visible signs of plot markings so it's very difficult to locate any graves that are unmarked.
Good luck with your search!

Should transcribers have local knowledge of documents that they are working on?
The more you use the census the more mistakes you find, this is especially true of Ancestry census transcriptions. If you purchase a cd from a local FHS, group etc then they tend to have a lower rate of mistakes.Bear in mind that if you are looking at a census transcription of an area that you do not know a mistake will not be obvious to you and could be the brick wall that you stuck on.
My question is, "Should transcribers be local or have local knowledge of the documents that they are working on?
