Norfolk Lookup Requests / Re: James Ridley Foreman, 1871 look-up please

I am not related to the family. A friend who bought a property in Norfolk asked me to see what information could be found on the sometime owners. I did so but can't remember any more detail I'm afraid.

I agree with Manion. There is an Elizabeth Manion aged 65 living at Usher's Quay in Dublin who may fit the bill.  (1911 Census)

Ireland / Re: James Canavan - Birth

Tilsley,

It seems likely that James Christopher Loos' father was a soldier for why else would he bear the name of Loos? (Battle of Loos, Belgium Sept 1915)

And the fact that his father married in Woolwich also points to the military - it being the home of the artillery regiments. If his father was a serving soldier in WW1 there should be a medal card for him on the National Archives site - and maybe even his service documents which may give more info about his background and place of birth.

Handwriting Deciphering & Recognition / Re: Marriage of Elizabeth Langun 1713
« on: Thursday 30 June 11 14:18 BST (UK)  »
Thanks for that Jim,

Well, the IGI has it as Lamgun, and it looks like that to me, although there is a slight squiggle at the end of the 'n' which may have been an attempt to turn it into an 'm', and therefore giving Lamgum.

I have no idea if the lady was foreign. But trawling through the names beginning with 'L' on the batch number MO1072-2 there is nothing else close to it.

I wonder if her name was actually Langham, but due to accent distortion was written incorrectly...

If anyone has any bright ideas - feel free to chip in!

Warwickshire Lookup Requests / Re: Coventry apprentice enrolment look-up please

Hello Diane,

The Gibbs family I was researching is that of my wife's. You are therefore related to her.

James Gibbs the coachmaker of Spon St, Cov was the son of William Gibbs and Jane Beck who married at Ansty (St James)  on 30th June 1794. He had brothers and a sister amongst whom is Thomas Gibbs, a boatman of Ansty who is my wife's direct ancestor.

William Gibbs' parents were James Gibbs and Ann Watson who were married at Rugby St Andrews on 8th Feb 1771. And that's as far back as I know.

I did wonder about Jonathan. Couldn't find any birth record for him, but knew he fitted in somewhere!

I am happy to share what info I have on the family - just say so and I'll have a trawl through the bumph, though you probably have most of it.

regards, Leofric

I would be grateful if someone could please find this family for me on the 1871 census, probably in Great Yarmouth:

James Ridley Foreman, (aged about 45/50)
Martha, his wife.
and children: Alice, Jane and Charles.

Thanks in anticipation

Lincolnshire Lookup Requests / Kirton Lindsey parish look-up please
« on: Saturday 04 December 10 17:29 GMT (UK)  »
If anyone might have access to the parish records of Kirton Lindsey I would be grateful for a look-up for the baptism of Ann Winby in about 1774.

Thanks
Leofric
