Northumberland Lookup Requests / Loaning Burn
« on: Tuesday 08 July 14 12:20 BST (UK)  »
An article in the Newcastle Journal states: Records show that at Loaning Burn in the early 17th Century, Jenkin, John, George and Gabriell Anderson farmed just 34 acres between them. And 16 boundary stones on the range, bearing the initials of the respective owners, indicate how the land was divided.  The remains show that people have tried to eke a living from the land.
As early as 1633 there was a colliery at Loaning Burn.
Any information on the Anderson or Loaning Burn would be greatly appreciated.

Galway / GAVEN/GAVIN or GARVEN
« on: Tuesday 15 June 10 10:14 BST (UK)  »
My ancestors came to Manchester in the 1850's. They had a daughter Jane born June 1858 in Manchester so I know they came before that date. On the 1891 census my g grandmother Mary says she was born Galway, this could have been any time from 1845 to 1850 and could have been the city or the County. Her father was Patrick Gaven and her mother Mary Noon. She had a sister Bridget born c 1844/45 and a brother Andrew born 1842/43. I am going to Galway next week. I have searched the IFHF and Ancestry and LDS - is there any other resource that may help me?
Many thanks
Angela

Hi

Good to know that - !!

My husband is Henry Jones g g grandson. Henry and Ellens son Alfred Hewlett Jones had James Edward Jones who in turn had Alfred who was my husbands father.  You must be third cousins or possibly 4th. I have an enquiry in with the National Archives looking for more information on John Julian as he was an excise officer and there must be records of his postings etc.

Mery Lewis - born Meidrum/Mydrim in 1783 married John Julian Jones 1 October 1805 at Mydri/Meidrum. I am looking for the names of their parents.
Does anyone have access to the parish records? I would be grateful for any information I can latch on to.

Durham Lookup Requests / Re: HELP WILLIAM Beswick 1845

1841: Bridget McCann aged 45 Preston, Lancs
1851 Bridget MacCana aged 55 born Ireland living market Weighton
1861: Bridget Hartley 65, William Hartley 60, Martha Hartley 13 (born Thirsk) - this Bridget Hartley is in fact Bridget McCann, macanna, maccana. She is too old to have a daughter of 13 so likely this Martha was a grandaughter. She is born in Thirsk in the correct year for your Martha and has a grandmother called McCann. Could there be a link?

Hi Kat
I wonder if you have made any progress with your tree since the last posting which was quite some time ago. I was looking for Ingels in my tree and I came across an entry on the 1851 census in South Shields for a Bennes IngELs. She was aged 46 and a mariners wife and was born in Scotland. She was a lodger so her husband was obviously away at sea. There is then a death registered for Benenus Carr IngLEs in the June quarter of 1857 again South Shields. On the 1861 census is a mariner William IngLEs aged 61 a widower. He was born in Haddington, Dunbar, Scotland.
This doesn't help you at all with your John Hill and his wife does it but as she was born in South Shields there must obviously be a connection.

Northumberland Lookup Requests / Re: John Nesbitt 1851/1861 Lookup Request

Hi
The two entries Trini has given you for the 1851 and 1841 census returns are in fact our ancesters. But our John Nesbitt - who was a mariner - married in 1856 and had 2 children David and John before his wife died. He then remarried in 1865 but she also died. he spent most of his time in China.
Looks like your John Nesbitt may be the one who was aboard ship at Anglesey
Cheers Lyn
