I am hoping to find out if the Mitchells in this thread are linked to my wife's Mitchell ancestors.

My wife is Anita Elaine Mitchell, born 1957 in Sheffield. My records show that her 2nd great-grandfather, Andrew William Mitchell, was born in Rothesay 4th April 1798 d. 1883 in London St Pancras - he moved down to London St Pancras area and his descendants then found their way to Sheffield. 

Andrew William's parents were Andrew Mitchell b. 1768 in Strathlachan d. 1802 in Rothesay and  Elizabeth Millar b. 1769 in New Kilpatrick, Dunbartonshire. Andrew's parents were Alexander Mitchell b. 1745 in Campbelton, Argyllshire and Christian Brown b. 1746. 

Can anyone tell me whether these names fit into your own family trees.

Siblings of Andrew Mitchell b. 1768 were:
Isabel Mitchell b. 1756  Strathlachan
Alexander Mitchell b. 1771  Rothesay died unknown date in USA
Archibald Mitchell b. 1773  Strathlachan
    Archibald and his wife, Matreidar had a child, Duncan Mitchell baptised 1804 in Campbelton - is this the Duncan mentioned in this thread possibly ?

John Layton Mitchell b. 1793 in Rothesay - d. 1871 in Floyd County, Kentucky, USA
Alexander Mitchell b. 1796 in Rothesay - d. 1873 in Glasgow
Elizabeth Mitchell  1800 - 1835 b. and d. in Rothesay
Margaret Mitchell  1802 - 1824 b. and d. in Rothesay

You are most welcome!  Having worked in West Lavington for three years I found this one tempting!

George Lane/Annie Snell marriage Newport Q4 1897 most likely.  She, born Leeds 1875, was living in Woolos also in 1891.  The time they say they have been married in a later census is a year out but perhaps maths wasn't their strong point!

Penny (Lane) was the name of our first cat if that helps !  Then inflation took hold and second cat had to be called Tuppence ....... seriously !

I visited the Cheverells/Lavingtons area a few times when working in Wiltshire - even found a cottage the family had lived in which was really nice.

The newspaper reports are on British Newspaper (BNA) website or FindMyPast.  A lot of libraries in England have access to these databases
