It has been sometime since I checked out this thread. Has anyone gained anymore info on William Hackney who married Ann Barber ? Very grateful as William is as far back as I can go with that branch of the family tree.

Hi !  I am trying to track down the Hackney of Marton and have about the same info as you. There are a couple of family 'myths' about William(1831) but I have had no luck tracking down his grandparents. The Barbers - Ann's family, were probably the tenant farmers at Marton Hall and father William was supposed to have been a stable worker. Ann's family seemed to have stayed on at the Hall but did not take her children in - family dispute over her relationship with William? Cannot find any connection with your Mary. Perhaps she was just a good hearted soul. If you do find anything else I would be delighted to hear. Marton Hall was a tenanted farm from Capesthorne Hall.
