Not sure.. I am looking and I am sure some how connect st not really directly.. My Ann Gardner Clelland was born in 1799. She married John Clelland 1818.  I am descended through a daughter Janet born 1823. I look closer. I am off to work now..

Kristin

Hi Kristin!

I think we may have an extremely distant link. Going on familysearch, https://familysearch.org/search/record/results?count=20&query=%2Bfather_givenname%3Ajames~%20%2Bfather_surname%3Aclelland~%20%2Bmother_surname%3Agardiner~%20%2Brecord_country%3AScotland

James Clelland/Cleland and Ann Gardiner/Gardner had the following children:

William Fleming b. 16th March 1833 ch. 4th April 1833
John & Archibald (I presume twins) b. 19th Oct 1827 ch. 3rd October 1827
James b. 10th April 1825 ch. 24th April 1825
Janet b. 2nd March 1823 ch. 16th March 1823
Elisabeth b. 16th May 1837 ch. 11th June 1837
Ann b. 10th September 1820 ch. 14th September 1820
Agnes b. 9th November 1829 ch. 29th November 1829

There is another Elizabeth b. 28th March 1839

2 other William's are listed also

b. 19th Dec 1831 ch. 25th Dec 1831
b. 11th March 1835 ch. 29th March 1835

So is your Janet Clelland the same as above? If so we have a link through her brother William Fleming Clelland.

It's so very distant though - my husbands 3rd great uncle widow Margaret Christie, remarried to him!

Hi!

I seem to have some information regarding the Clelland's in Paisley. They are not direct ancestors to us, just through marriage.

I have a William Fleming Clelland b. c 1833 married Margaret Christie 27th July 1866 in Paisley. They had 3 daughters - Ann Gardiner Clelland b.1867, Jane Christie Clelland b.1869, Nelly b. 1871 and 1 son William b. 1872.

William Fleming Clelland's parents were James Clelland and Diana/Ann Gardiner.

We are related through Margaret Christie (she was widowed before marrying William Clelland).

Hi Ken,

Many thanks for your detailed reply and help.

The wedding date I have is 17th July 1827 in Barony, Lanark.

I only have one child Agnes Anderson born in 1830 in Glasgow.

The James Anderson I have birth date is 14th March 1795 (parents John Anderson and Elisabeth Foyer)

Honestly I don't know how accurate my information is with James Anderson - I can't be sure yet as it based off family information and Ancestry records. Ideally I'd go onto scotlandspeople but I haven't any credits at the moment.

You have been of great assistance thanks again Ken!

Cheshire / Re: Glaister's of Birkenhead

Hi

If I have the right family then

George Glaister and Isabella Allison marrey Whitehaven Dec Qtr 1883
Son George birth reg Whitehaven Dec Qtr 1888
daughter born Newcastle Dec Qtr 1890
1891 Census has family in Byker, Northumberland Mother in law Sarah Allison seems to confirm this
1895 possible death Isabel Glaister age 28 June Qtr 1895 Toxteth Park, Liverpool
George remarries Liverpool Dec Qtr 1895 to Laura Bone
1901 census family in Birkenhead Laura on census as Norah.

Comparing the George Glaister/Sarah Graham marriage certificate with the 1911 census should hopefully confirm the family. Occupations, address etc

Andy

You do have the correct family, thanks Andy! I received my marriage certificate which has George born c.1888. I've had another look at my family notes and there is a question mark next to Whitehaven, Cumberland so I think he's originated there. His father George appears on the certificate and both Georges are ship platers for occupations.

The 1911 Census has George and his father both as ship platers and the age etc matches. Isabella the sister is there too. It seems George and his second wife had many children, one of the sons has Bone as his middle name.

I need to order George's birth certificate to be 100% sure but I am certain I have found the correct family.

Thanks again - the forum has been invaluable :)

I have a James ANDERSON who married a Mary Morrison in 1827 Lanarkshire, Scotland. He was born in 1795 in Lanarkshire to John Anderson and Elisabeth Foyer.

I have come across a service record for one James Anderson, born c.1795 in Lanarkshire, Scotland. (see attached)

What are peoples opinions please on how likely is it that this is the correct person? He married in 1827 so was in service at this time however the record seems to show that he served 14 out of the 15 years enlisted...(1 year enough time to be married?)

I'm struggling to read what the document says - particularly the discharge notes and general conduct (apart from the not good part!)

Many, many thanks for thoughts/opinions.

Good morning ;D,

I'm puzzled by your 1841 Census result for Thomas aged 4  :-\ This is the Freecen Transcription-
45 Broomland Street-
MORRISON   James   M   40   Brewer    Renfrewshire
  MORRISON   Agness   F   40       Renfrewshire
MORRISON   James   M   15   Joiner Apprentice    Renfrewshire
  MORRISON   Janet   F   12       Renfrewshire
  MORRISON   William   M   10       Renfrewshire
MORRISON   Mary Ann   F   6       Renfrewshire
  MORRISON   Margaret   F   6       Renfrewshire
  MORRISON   Thomas   M   4       Renfrewshire
  MORRISON   Eliza   F   1       Renfrewshire

There are no family relationships noted on the 1841 so although it is possible  the youngsters could all be the children of James Morrison snr , there is always the chance that they are nephews/nieces or indeed grandchildren.

Alexander Morrison age 78 is also at 45 Broomland St but is not listed on same Freecen page.

I have tried to locate the above family on the 1851 Census without much luck. The elusive Morrisons strike again ;D  Could be James snr and Agness had died.....or they all moved away .

Looby  :)

Hi Looby, the census I have is from the scotlandspeople site :) Thanks for this info!
