You certainly are!  Your great grandfather George was my great grandmother Mary Gall's younger brother! And you will be related to others on this site.

Your George got married ten years after his older sister Mary left for New Zealand.
He did brilliantly to become a Stationmaster in those difficult times.

Regards
Nancy

Ancestral Family Tree DNA Testing / Re: How Much of These Autosomal Results are Noise

My understanding of autosomnal dna is that although we get this dna from both parents, ourbrothers and sisters do not necessarily get the same.  Each time a child is born the dna for that child is taken out of the combined parents gene pool, but is different each time which would explain how sisters and brothers are so different.  I'm hoping to get some of my brothers and sisters to do dna tests to check this out.

Hi David, its absolutely wonderful to hear from you especially as you actually worked on the Buchanan Estate!  What was it like working there and did they improve the way they conveyed cattle?

When I first started researching family historu, I was terribly sad to learn that my 2x great grandfather had drowned in Loch Lomond.  Family history doesn't always bring great stories to life but some sad ones as well.  In fact, some of my French Canadian ancestors were massacred by Indians!

Mary Gall is my great grandmother.  I think she was 14 when her father drowned.  It seems some of the Scotts didn't approve of james scott and Mary getting married so they married at Buchanan with very few people being there and two days later were on The Nelson, sailing to the south island of New Zealand.

They did really well in Gimmerburn and had two farms, Diamond Hill and Idaburn.  As a child I lived at Idaburn  which I loved so I lived in the same house as Mary Gall although I never knew her.

I would absolutely love to have a copy of the full family history.  i think Jane Spencer would too.  I will try and work out the system to give you my email address. I certainly would like to know more about your life, Buchanan and the Galls.

Pleased to meet you cousin.  Mary Gall was my great grandmother, born at Woodhill, Barry, and George Gall was my 2x great grandfather.  In the 1871 census Mary Gall was 14 years old and there is a David Gall who was her younger brother.  He was 9.  is he your relative?  Keith is also my cousin.

George gall was drowned in Loch Lomond while working for the duke of Montrose.  They were herding cattle across the lake using two boats when George tried to jump into the second boat to control some cattle.  He went under and never surfaced.
