Aberdeenshire / Hepburn Margaret
« on: Saturday 17 October 20 08:32 BST (UK)  »
I'm trying to find records of Margaret Hepburn 1909-????. Aberdeenshire. She had an illegitimate son James Ian Hepburn 1933. The father is reputed to be George or James Park of New Pitsligo. I am researching this for a friend who thinks we might be related through the Parks of New Pitsligo. Any help is gratefully received. Thank you

Yes, it is very odd. I wonder about it and my relative was dumbfounded and couldn't understand it. Have you any information regarding blood groups being used to identify?

I was pleased to read the blog post regarding the improving of DNA testing. I do think it is a worthwhile science and many people have had amazing results. I haven't had mine done, a hangover from my Mum who believed such things were used to categorise and record groups of people for evil purposes. However, I do know a relative who had theirs tested and the results were, well, odd. Native American showed in their DNA when they lived in and came from a small Scottish village. Anyone else had something like this show up?

That's him alright, wow, thank you so much for this information. He was 27 when he married Barbara Cook in June 1888 and he was indeed a hall keeper. Thank you so much.  :)

Thank you so much, this will indeed help. I have a copy of Alexander's marriage certificate but can not find a birth certificate. However, with this date you have given me, I can narrow down the search. Thank you.  :)

But now, it gets difficult; my Great Grandfather, Alexander Park was married to Barbara Cook, no problems there, but on the marriage certificate Alexander's father is "reputed" to be Peter Park deceased and his mother is named as Jane Baxter. The date for the marriage is dated 1888 and his occupation is ploughman. This marriage took place in New Pitsligo and is the first instance I can find of my Park family in New Pitsligo. Now I know from family history that my G G Alexander held several occupations, groom, labourer on the roads, hall keeper and gamekeeper. His son, my grandfather, George Cook Park, bred dogs, horses and was a master-watchmaker. He was also the man who opened the garage Park's garage and cycles.
