Marmalady ;

Thanks for that ... isn't the world a small place ? ... I grew up in Benchill, Wythenshawe and went to the Tatton Cinema in Gatley ... also in the 50's & 60's.

Your information is very helpful .. but I feel that the Gatley connection isn't right . as my Father was the mysterious Lillian's brother ( also spending his early youth in Gatley himself,) he would have known of the Gatley connection.

The problem in tracing people is that the barriers come up with FindmyPast / Ancestry etc. etc. where detailed information always costs money ... usually payable before you know if the info is any good!!! Llibraries are helpful and I have had some good leads via Stockport Heritage Library, and I think they must be my next port of call to see their microfilm records.

Thanks for leads and I'll keep everyone posted .. perhaps others know something ??

Rolnora ;

Thanks for your input ... perhaps you could advise me:

a). where I could obtain Death Cert and what new/ additional info might be on it and ...

b). another contact has emailed me about 1 hour ago to say that a check on grave headstones in local churches in Chapel en le Frith, has not revealed any name in the 70's that might be relevant. .... bear in mind some headstones were buried / flat when survey taken and are still possible contenders.

c). ... stumped again !!!

Thanks and regards - Safecontractor

Gardener :
Thanks for that ... that info has absolutely shaken me rigid !!! .. apparently the address was an old workhouse at (not much) earlier times .. the will shows £1423 .. so ..... I must investigate further.

I'm very appreciative .. Safecontractor

Still struggling, I'm afraid .... checked out your good information on FindmyPast but (probably my fault) can't see any additional new info., other than " Chapel en le Frith".

I'm now really trying to find the burial place of Lillian Hewitt and have received some assistance from a new contact actually in Chapel en le Frith who has been checking Church Records ... so far no luck.

Can anyone throw any more light on this or where I might start an additional search to find this information ?

Thanks for those ... most of the links I have gone through to date without success ... NB Lilian was married to J W Hewitt ... he was not her son ...... I have a suspicion that she was buried / died in the Stockport area and it's that info I seek.

Looking to find my Aunt who I have never been able to trace ... only scanty information :

Lilian Wood .. born 1896 approximately .. at "The Willows", Poundswick, Northern Etchells, Cheadle, Cheshire .... then possibly at Gib Hill, Shrigley Park, Bollington, Macclesfield in 1919 & 12 Park Street, Bollington. Macclesfield in 1920.

She married James W Hewitt in 1914 and lived at 78, Church Road, Gatley in 1920..... thereafter no more information.

James was killed on the Somme in 1918,( remembered on the memorial at Gatley Green) along with Lilian's brothers, Harold and Ernest, all within 6 weeks and 25 miles of each other in France.

All were my Uncles and my Father, John, was much younger, missed WW1, survived WW2, and died in 1980. Have traced and visited all the graves in N. France.... but Lilian ??????

Any help would be appreciated.
