World War One / Re: Ridley C Shacklady T
« on: Tuesday 04 July 06 18:02 BST (UK)  »
Sinclair Robinson is my DH's great uncle.  DH's grandfather, William Stewart Robinson and Sinclair both served in WW1.  Sinclair was killed as mentioned above.  And yes, that's the plaque DH's uncle has.  It's still in it's orginal wrapping with some other documents.  DH's uncle very kindly let me take photos of some of Sinclair's things.

As William Stewart Robinson is the only surviving son of 4, finding family has proved very difficult as he too has passed. I had come across an UK archives site by a google search and found the medal card.  I didn't see a medal with the paperwork, plaque and the letters written between the two brothers.

I'm confused some on where Sinclair actually died.  One site says Gallipoli and another says France and Flanders.  I'm not familiar enough with the battles of WW1 and where Sinclair served.

Thank you for letting me know it's a death penny that was given to next of kin.

World War One / Ridley C Shacklady T

I found Sinclair Robinson's information on the National Archives site I happened across.  It mentioned Ridley C Shacklady T and wondered what it was or looked like.   While in England last week, my DH's uncle showed me a plaque that had Sinclair's name on it that was in his possesion.  Is this the same thing or does Sinclair have another medal that was awarded him?

Thanks

Northumberland / Re: Pringle/Coulson/Henderson/Rodgers

The pictures I have are dated about 1914.  I am thinking the other picture that lists Charlie as a cousin is her brother.  I don't know where the Hendersons lived.

My geography of Northumberland isn't the greatest so I don't think I drove through Amble.  We were on the North Sea coast most of the time.

Northumberland / Pringle/Coulson/Henderson/Rodgers

I just spent a week in England and was able to take digital pictures of old family member pictures.  The originals are still with DH's uncle, but I was pleased he allowed me to photograph them.

I have photos of a Matthew Henderson married to a Margaret Coulson and I have photos of a Charlie Henderson and a Hattie? Henderson.  The back of the photos say cousins in my DH's grandmother's writing.  Dora's mother is Sarah Annie Coulson who married James Pringle in 1891.

I have some Rodgers photos as well as James Pringle had a daughter Agnes, that married a William Rodgers in 1882.  Probably in Scotland..near Edinburgh.

The names are familiar to me, but I don't have them in my database.  I thought I had.  The Coulsons lived in the Northumberland area, which I was privledged to drive through last week.  Dora Pringle was born in Gateshead and Whitley Bay and surrounding areas were family vacation spots.

I will happily share the photographs I took if you are part of these lines or can better identify names for me.

Dublin / John Joseph Powderly
« on: Wednesday 14 June 06 03:57 BST (UK)  »
Thanks to some wonderful information received today, I have proof of  the father of Sinclair Alexander Robinson as indeed William Robinson.  The marriage certificate listed a Sophia Rebecca Powderly and John Joseph Hamerton as witnesses.  Sophia's parents are John Joseph Powderly and Nannie (Nanny) Robinson.

Other siblings to Sophia are Thomas b. 1865, Alexander b. 1867, Margaret b. 1870, William John b. 1866 and William John b. 1879.

As witnesses were usually relatives or close friends, any help would be apreciated to see if Nannie Robinson is related to Sinclair Alexander Robinson.  This is the closest lead I have had since searching for the Robinson side of the family.  Thank you for any help.

Thank for for finding this site.  I don't know if he was one, but I did make an inquiry and I will see what happens.

I have seen him in the directory.  I really don't know if he is any relation to Helena or not.  Sinclair's first marriage was to an Annie Gray and then to Helena Bessie Hammerton.

Would any WW1 sites have information as Sinclair's other son was in WW1.  His name was also Sinclair Robinson and d. 21 Aug 1915. He went by "Clare".  Would any Mason groups be able to give information if William and or Sinclair were in the Masons?

Dublin / Re: Dublin Cemetery Look up or information
« on: Sunday 20 November 05 21:48 GMT (UK)  »
I could use some help with some math..lol.  My husband's grandfather William Stewart was born 29 Nov 1896 in Dublin, Dublin, Ireland.  He was part of a confectioner business which my husband's uncles still run to this day.  William's father is a Sinclair Alexander Robinson with a death date of 9 jul 1925 buried in the cemetery above.

However; I find a William Robinson in the 1850 Shaw's directory on the same street..Capel St in the same business.  I have a William Robertson in the 1841 directory on the same street in the same business.  I have come to the conclusion that this William is possibly the father of Sinclair Alexander, but without having the date of birth, it's hard to tell.

How do you gauge ages from this kind of information?   I can guess Sinclair's birth if you take about 20 years from his marriage date of 1893 to possibly 1870's.  But, what does that make this William's age to be if he is both in the 1841 and 1850 directories.  (Family lore is that the name was Robertson before it was changed to Robinson)  Or..am I just making it harder than it is?
