In my case, I don't have a tree on Ancestry, it's all kept private in my own paper files (yes, I still use lever-arch files & feel much safer for doing so  :) ) with a working copy on a computer that isn't internet connected (coz it uses the old XP os)

I agree with Pheno above, I think it's related to 'member connect'.  I have had this on my own home page, whereby I've been notified that someone I never heard of has made a search on the same name that I searched; don't think it necessarily has to be someone with a tree, but I could be wrong about that.  I'm not best pleased to have Ancestry tracking my every move in this way, but can't find if it's possible to stop it from happening.

Technical Help / Re: Printer doesn't like ink cartridge

My local supplier of replacement compatible ink cartidges told me recently that printer manufacturers have been building into their more recent models a facility that rejects anything other than their genuine replacement parts.  They also include reinforcement of the rejection into any updates they issue for drivers and such like.  Sadly he is in process of closing down the business because there are fewer and fewer people with older printers that can accept compatibles & there just isn't enough business in the originals to keep him afloat. 

I've stocked up with several sets of inks, but goodness knows whether I shall be able to get even the real thing when they've all gone.  I have an ancient - but still very much in full working order - Canon, that gives me beautiful prints, copies, photos and scans with no trouble at all.   

So much for progress  - never forget that manufacturers are only interested in their profits - sod how that affects the consumers.

It really grieves me to throw away perfectly good equipment - any equipment, that is, not just computers/peripherals.

They would have noticed that we all (well, most of us) had the RootsChat logo beside our names.  I wonder if they may have just dismissed any comments as coming from a bunch of weirdos, or troublemakers, or knows-it-alls who were not really interested in the course. 

There again, maybe they just didn't notice the constructive or negative bits amongst all the glowing testimonials.

p.s.  There were too many comments to read them all, at every stage, so perhaps there were others who gave not so enthusiastic views, but I didn't notice any

'Tis a pity that they appear not to have road-tested the videos beforehand, and internally no-one has pointed out where they might improve things a little.

I remember that notice earlier in the year, which seems to be quite genuine.  However, there is a paid-for aspect to Mocavo, with the offer of a new similar-price sub to FindMyPast.  So I wonder how hard FindMyPast will be advertising the free records that they hold - similar to the 1881 census (I don't notice either of the 2 main sites bring these free records to the forefront of their adverts).

I think that it will not be long before the "free forever" sections and the paid for sections become so integrated with existing records that the free aspect will be lost in the mists of time.  I suspect that new researchers, and some older ones, will simply assume that they have to subscribe to the site to access the records, beyond indexes.  I hope I'm wrong.

Me too.  That plus her hands in constant motion make it a bit difficult for me to hear the content.  But we don't know the background.  Perhaps because it is free to the public, the presenters have difficulty in obtaining sufficient resources from the Uni to deliver 'professional' presentations

I'm another one who finished the first week last night, didn't expect to but just kept reading and clicking through, with the occasional flurry into the conversations, and reached the end before I knew it.  I plan to go back again tonight, have a quick re-read of everything, and catch up with some of the comments, and with any Rootschatters I haven't found yet.

Last thing I did was to add your logo, Deirdre, so I guess I'll change it to the official one so that it matches everybody else, though I feel a bit guilty same as others.  Thanks very much for the inspiration though, because there's no way I was ever going to remember everybody's names  :)
