Banksiapat, though it's true that baptisms were at times performed well after a child's infancy, there's a birth record that looks to be Caroline's from April, May, June, 1853, and as her baptism was April 17th, it appears as though her birth probably took place in the first half of April, 1853.
It just occurred to me that if they were married on 26 Dec 1870, and there was a baby already born by 2 Apr 1871 (Census Day), that they were probably in a bit of a hurry to make things legal. Perhaps their parents didn't know a thing until after they were married and she had to lie about her age in order to do it. Just a thought.
