Shropshire / Re: Green family, Shropshire
« on: Monday 04 January 21 21:09 GMT (UK)  »
Sadley , neither. My Edward would have been born c1740s? problem is  I have no idea where. I have his will from 1797 when he died and his wife ne calls Eleanor. Prior to going to Shrophire c 1778  he worked in a paper Mill in Northumberland from 1770 to about 1778.  four years later he purchased a paper Mill in Weston Rhyn together with a couple more mills and properties.

All I know about him is that he had two daughters bap in Northumberland in 1772 and 1774. I have never found his marriage as I don't know his wifes maiden name. Nor do I know when exactly or where he was born. Could have been anywhere in the country. THere are a couple of Elinors/ Eleanors who married Edward Green's in Shropshire but none of them are the corect people. Thank you so much for your reply. I was just hoping that maybe he hd relatives in Shropshire which might have been the reason for him going there after Northumberland. This myster has ben ongoing for years. How can someone just disappear into thin air and leave no traces. I must have missed something somewhere.

Northumberland / Paper Maker Edward Green
« on: Saturday 04 July 20 10:21 BST (UK)  »
I have been searching for this ancestor for years and knowledge
g still very limited. Any help or advice much appreciated.

Edward GREEN worked at a paper Mill in Northumberland (Parish Warden) from c 1772 to c 1778. Two daughtrs bap there at St Michaels in 1772 and 1774 also another daughter buried there in 1777 but no mention of her bap. Mothers name not included in any of these events so cannt find his marriage.
He moved to Shropshire in c1778 died in 1797 but buriel and death ommitted from parish register. So many dead ends. However if I can find any more info about his earlier life in Northumberland that would be helpful.
There must be something I have missed that will give some clues. But I don't
even know where in the country he was born   as paper makers did travel around so don't even have his parents name. If anyone has any ideas of which docs might be helpful even though I think I have covered all bases I will be most grateful. many thanks Marigold 77

Welcome to Rootschat!
I typed in on the off-chance-Weston Cottage, Shropshire, and a very pretty, quite old, B & B came up. Don't know if it is the one of course.
regards.
Hi trying to  find out if there was a cottage near here named Weston Cottage and if anyone knows what it is called now. Two of our ancestors used to live  there Hugh Davies 1869-1956 and his sister Margaret[Maggie]1873-1952. They lived there from approx. 1920's until Hugh or Hughies death in 1956. Don't know if it was passed to any of the other Davies or if it was sold on.I think it is now Plas Cerrig but again I can't be certain without proof. The Davies family were farmers and occupied Fron Isaf farm in Weston Rhyn from approx. 1860's to I think 1930'sAny iformation greatly appreciated or old photos Regards Chris

The Common Room / Re: information from a death cert
« on: Thursday 26 May 16 13:45 BST (UK)  »
Most usual info contained is: name/address of deceased (or place where he died) cause of death, if a time period is given eg; 14 days. This means that the deceased was under medical supervision/treatment for the 14 days prior to his death. Name and address of informant and if present at death. Ages of deceased can be misleading as sometimes the informant doesn't actually know the precise age so he might guess. So always take the age 'with a pinch of salt.
