Has anyone any information about Coppice Houses Dawley ?

My  great grandfather Richard Poole , occupation charter master , and his wife  Mary with children Albert ,William , Robert ,Thomas , Mary , Richard (my  grandfather ) and Frederick were listed there at the 1881 census .

In the same census there was also the family of Noah Attwood  at Coppice Houses .

I have recently found that in 1937 at Wishaw , Scotland  a  Catherine Poole married Noah Attwood son of Noah Attwood of Coppice Houses .

I would be most grateful for any information of Coppice Houses or of the families of  Noah and Catherine .

Regards , David Poole .

Thanks Rambler .

Your info from the 1851 census is very much appreciated .
Did you notice , children as young as 3 year old Thomas had a listed occupation as Errand Boy .
Thank you for the link to IGI baptismal records , I shall be checking that out and keeping this topic updated .

Thanks again , Dave Poole .

Hello Alnat ,

I am intrigued with your news about the link to Coppice Houses and will try to find out more .
I am not aware of family links to Scotland , but till a few  weeks  ago  I  did  not  Know  that my grandfather Richard Poole had so many brothers and a sister .
So it is possible that one of them  was an ancestor of Catherine , especially with the link to Coppice Houses .
I shall try to find out what I can and let you know .
Perhaps someone reading this may know of a link to this family at Old Park ,Dawley, if so please let us know .
Regards ,
David Poole .

Hi Sarah ,

Thanks for the reply , but sorry we don't know if there were brothers or sisters or his mothers name .
The only other fact we know is that David Griffiths served in the Royal Welch Fusileers in Egypt 1915 .

Wales / Griffiths family

Hello ,

I am trying to trace the Griffiths line of my wifes family .
On her grandparents marriage certificate , dated 20th Sept 1914 , her grandfather David Griffiths age 24 married Lizzie Thomas age 23 , at Dolgelley .
The grooms father is listed as Thomas Griffiths (deceased ) with profession of Grocer .

The only clue we have as to their ancestry is that Grandfather was referred to as ' Taid Swansea ' .

There are so many Griffiths in the  census records that I have come to a stop .
If there is anyone out there that may be related or know of a link please let me know .

David Poole .

I am hoping that the following info may match someones family tree ;

my great grandfather Richard Poole , born ? , probably c 1850's . occupation colliery charter master .

my grandfather  Richard Poole , born c 1877 , occupation colliery charter master then iron foundry foreman .
married 1907 to Annie Taylor of Leegomery , Madely.

My father Richard Philip Poole , born july 1909 at Leegomery , Madeley . occupation farmer .
married Phyllis Price .

There is a vague family story that grandfather had a brother , name not known , who emigrated to Calgary , Canada to buy a horse ranch .

Thats all I know , hope someone can add to this .
Regards ,

Hello Coltrane,

Both my gradfather Richard Poole and Great Grandfather Richard Poole were Charter Masters in Shropshire .

According  to  articles  I  have read   of  historical societies in  the BlackCountry ;
" The actual mining of the coal and ironstone was undertaken by Charter  Masters , specially qualified men with training and experienced  , often being the sons of charter masters . These were contracted with the landowners mining agents to supply the  labour , horses , tools , candles , and explosives and also light beer to be sent down in small kegs at midday . They were not responsible for the winding plants and the sinking of the shafts . They were paid tonnage rates , the rates being obtained by weighing machines on the railway and by gauging of the canal boats . "

I hope this has been of some help .

As  for me I have found a William Pooe Charter master at Dawley Bank 1851 , a Horace David Poole  Charter Master and General Manager of Baggeridge colliery 1926 to 1937 , son of my namesake David  Philip Poole , who  in 1901 was manager of an iron foundry living near Amblecote , Staffs .
Now I have to find their links to my family .

Regards ,
David .P. Poole .
