Thanks to everybody who took the trouble to reply.  With your help I have now worked out that the chapel was on Lower Garden St and the school on Royal East St.  The records are in the archives at Wigston.  Now I just have to make the journey from Scotland!

I'm not actually sure where I mean, hence the question.  I thought, from a thread elsewhere, that the chapel was in Lower Garden Street.  This would make sense as it was close to Alfred Street, my great-grandfather's address on the certificate.  The certificate indicates the marriage took place at St Patrick's Chapel in the District of Leicester in the Borough of Leicester.

I have to admit to floundering around in the dark with these two.  They were both born in Liverpool, their children were born in Nottingham and they all ended up in London.  Why they married in Leicester is anyone's guess.  I have no knowledge of the city or county except for this marriage so would be grateful for any help from seasoned Leicester researchers.

Can anyone tell me where the parish records for this chapel may be found?  My great-grandparents married there in 1890 and I'm hoping, probably in vain, that the priest recorded more family information than is on the marriage certificate.

I have searched the Leicester Archives catalogue but they don't appear to be there.

That's brilliant, thanks Norrie.  And yes, I would like the photos if that's at all possible.

There is a book of MIs for Fordyce in the Heritage Centre in Elgin.  I don't know when it was published - it's quite old, but it definitely includes the inscriptions and a cemetery plan.  If you email the Centre they will look it up for you.

Hi Eilleen

Sorry, I keep forgetting to take my camera with me when I go into Keith.  However, I can tell you that Weston House was built in 1885 by a Laing and has remained in the family ever since.  The current owner was a butcher himself before opening the nursing home.

Hope this is of use.

Have you tried the James Geddes son of Peter Geddes and Ann Young who was baptised in Fordyce on 27 Aug 1794?
