Yes, I saw that on familysearch.org - though it's not clear whether its a certificate (i.e., more info) or a registration record (i.e., less).  Thanks very much - I'll follow up on this.
All the best, Frances - much appreciated,
Jo

I see - thanks. Looks like the manifest don't really have much more than the cards. Very helpful, though - and it's certainly possible that he's our Michael.
Much appreciated,
Jo

Sanda,
Thanks very much indeed for your prompt reply. I had seen these passenger index cards - and I agree they not too helpful in and of themselves. I wondered whether the citations might lead to other more detailed documents such as passenger manifests, but not sure.  And as you say, it seems like the regulation of such information didn't get very tight until 1890 or so.
However, I'm quite sure that none of the 3 emigrated with wives. I know this because the 3 brothers married 3 Clancy sisters in Boston (Somerville) over the late 1880s. James married Mary Ann Clancy, Michael married Sarah Clancy and Thomas married Jane Clancy.  They all lived on Joy St. I believe the Clancy sisters lived at 86 Joy St. and the Colbert brothers all 3 lived in a boarding house at 34 Joy St. - so the brother/sister marriages are not quite coincidental.
Many thanks for your thoughts and inquiries. Jo

US Lookup Requests / The Colbert immigrants from Cork to Boston
« on: Sunday 14 June 15 15:37 BST (UK)  »
Hi - and thanks for this kind offer of collaboration.  I'm searching for Michael Colbert and wife, Katherine Kelleher in Co. Cork and for emigration voyage info on their three sons.  The sons all emigrated to Boston Massachusetts and settled on Joy St. in the Somerville section.  The U.S. Colbert Clan is gathering this July on Cape Cod (some 200-odd people) and I'd love to present the location where the 3 immigrant boys were born and raised - and ideally the ships and ports of their voyages.  Their names: James (born March 1851, emigrated 1876), Michael (born 24 May 1855, emigrated 1884) and Thomas (born 12 Oct 1860, emigrated 1885). The emigration date information here is from census (so it could be inaccurate).  Thanks! Jo

Frances,
Thanks so much for the prompt reply! I don't have the ships or the ports of entry/departure - except that the family lore has it that the Colberts were from Queenstown, Cork. But I see no Colberts there.  It may well have meant the it was their port of departure, of course, but that also doesn't say whether they went via Liverpool or not. The passenger arrival records are pretty spotty and often are index-only with scant information about departure ports or home townland - and am a bit of a loss on how to get vague arrival-by-port index cards (with Thomas Colbert, say - and departure port "Ireland") to passenger manifest - which might have more detail. I too say the Michael in Mogeely and another in Ballynoe - but here again, it's not clear to me what one should do with those leads. Can you suggest a best next-step from the Griffiths information?  Thanks again, Jo
