Bedfordshire / Benjamin George Pyne
« on: Tuesday 12 August 25 19:53 BST (UK)  »
Hello genealogy friends,
I'm hoping to get some extra eyes or some tips on how to find a man by the name of Benjamin George Pyne.

What we know of him:
- supposedly work at a big house in or near Havant, Hampshire in the late 1860s
- fathered Walter Benjamin Pyne with Ann Neale while working at the big house in Havant in 1867; they did not marry and she ended up marrying Edward Ward
- Great-granddaughter shares many DNA matches with a Pyne family from Leighton Buzzard

I have been helping my DNA cousin with trying to figure out how her Pyne fits in with my line of Pynes. She shares a decent amount of DNA with my dad and myself as well as many shared matches who are descended from George Whiting and Sarah Eliza Pyne.

Sarah Eliza Pyne was the daughter of Giles Pyne and Elizabeth Shepherd. They had a son named Benjamin Giles Pyne who could possibly be the father but the DNA match to one of Benj. Giles Pyne's descendents doesnt seem high enough.

I'm hoping someone is able to help me find a Benjamin George Pyne who was probably born sometime in the 1840s, possibly in Leighton Buzzard. Thanks so much!

More news.

I was finally able to obtain James Stuart’s Will. He left everything to his wife, his friend Charles George Stuart, friend Brigadier William Sage, Basil George Brooke, his niece Grace Brooke, his nephew James Stuart Irwin, and his two sisters Caroline and Margaret. His son is not even mentioned. I really thought I would have gotten a lot more information but I guess he disowned him.

For anyone in this very old thread who is interested, I finally found the marriage announcement that states Henry Benson Stuart as the eldest son of James Stuart. I thought I'd share my exciting news!

Have a look here:

Unfortunately the "tables décennales" for the letter S for the period are missing so you will have to trawl through the actual registers for the years 1911 and 1912.

Regards

Judith

That’s excellent! Thank you so much for that. I don’t mind a bit of record trawling.

Hi everyone,

Does anyone know where I can try to find a death record in Maison-Laffitte, France around 1911/1912?
I was sent a memoir by a distant relative and I’m curious about some of the people mentioned it.

I’m looking for the death of John Stuart, who was a racehorse trainer, and married to a woman named Gloria. I do not know if these were their real names or nicknames.

According to the memoir, John Stuart studied to be a vet in Edinburgh, ran a hat factory with his brother Henry in Luton, and had stables in Newmarket for his horses. Around 1894/1895 he and his wife and niece, Mary Stuart, moved to Maison-Laffitte, France.

I can’t find any information on these two people. Mary Stuart I have lots on. I’ve searched Ancestry (subscription) and a few things on Find My Past (no subscription). I’m not sure where I can look for records in France.

Thanks so much for any and all advice and tips 😊

I’m not sure if this is the correct riding to post in but it may not matter. My 5th great grandfather, Jabez Maybard, married in Doncaster in 1793. The image shows his name as Jabesh Mayman. All other records succeeding the marriage record shows Jabez Maynard. The family all went by the surname Maynard and a son and grandsons were named Jabez Maynard. I have no records prior to his marriage in 1793. He was born about 1770 but I’m not sure where. He died in Drypool in 1818.

What could be the reason for the name change? His signature on the banns also shows Jabesh Mayman.

Thanks so much for any knowledge you can pass on to me :)
