Hi Fortarian
I am just picking my my Leslie/Douglas/Forsyth/Roy lines before visitng Morayshire in early August 2015.  I note your comments re John Roy.  I noticed the 1838 death record on Scotlands People referred to him as Captain John Roy?  Are you able to throw any light on this?     I am also wondering where would be the best place to base ourselves for a few days while visiting that area.  Any information or suggestion very gratefully received.   On a side note, I did manage to visit Geelong where Jean and her children settled.  I was thrilled to find her grave in the short time I had there.  The monument is very difficult to read but I had a lovely photo from someone taken in the 1980s so was able to make out the inscription.  Very thrilled and very humbling experience.

Hi,
I am wondering if Forsyths were around Elgin/Rothes/forres in and around 1810 onwards.   My family line is Jean Leslie who had a son, John Leslie Douglas who emigrated to Aus in the late 1830s.  He married Ellen/Hellen Forsyth in Sydney in dec 1838.  She was the only Forsyth on the ship and was stated as the daughter of Synclair and Catherine Forsyth and was from Minard, Argyleshire.  However, I have not been able to find any trace.  She was listed as a dressmaker and house servant .maybe she knew John Leslie Douglas from the Rothes/Elgin area?  Jean Leslie was married twice and she herself emigrated to Aus after the death of her second husband John Roy who died in 1838.   We will be visiting Scotland in August so hope to ttrace what I can before then!
