Why would American soldiers be over here on the 30s?

Was told one of these men was a deceased friends father, but she was born 1932. So what nationality are these soldiers and roughly date of photo?

The Common Room / Ancestors of Edward Foley and Rebecca Cooksey
« on: Thursday 11 September 25 13:13 BST (UK)  »
I am trying to find the father of Edward Foley b1759 at Dudley who married Rebecca Cooksey. My search gives me a possible father Edward b 1723 who married Betty Foley. Other posters on wikitree have the father as Edward b1732 who married an Elizabeth. If this is true then my Foleys connect to the Foleys of Witley Court which I would love to prove. Can anyone help please?

Armed Forces / Re: What is this uniform please?

Thank you very much. Thats complicated my research. One of these men is supposed to be the father of someone born 1932 in West Sussex. I have the birth cert for her but her birth parents split up just a few years later and they must have divorced as the mother remarried in 1937. He didn't die till 1971 in Enfield. So how did he get to wear an American uniform? Could he have enlisted from this country or would he have emigrated, fought and then returned to the uk.
Intriguing to say the least. Any ideas anyone?

Technical Help / Re: FTM 2019
« on: Friday 05 March 21 22:45 GMT (UK)  »
After a bit of oohing and aahing I decided to splash the cash on Ftm 2019, going for the full package of download and USB. Had to pay full price but delivery and vat added which bumped up price a fair bit. On hindsight think should have gone for just download as they give a link to do it again if your pc breaks down.

You can save trees onto the USB but in order to view them think you have to download the drivers from it again. Not too sure. It's not as easy to use as 2005 version and probably won't use all facilities on it but hopefully will keep my trees safe.
It does copy over all notes and photos and you can add as many ftm trees as you like. Just have to keep playing with it.

Thanks both for your replies. Have never had my tree on Ancestry so would be going down the same route as greenrig. Just out of interest, does it save all info from the old version, such as notes? Is there anything missing which needs to be put in manually, as I say I have a very large tree?

Probably keep the two trees on pc for a time., until such a time as it no longer works.
