If Ambrose buried at Leeds in 1782 was aged 60 and from Darlington, then it may be Ambrose baptised 1726 Auckland St. Andrew, who married Isabell Porteous.  How interesting though.

You probably already know the answer (since it's more than 4 years elapsed since the original discussion) but the Ambrose that died in Leeds was from Darlington.  The Bishop's Transcript doesn't mention an age, but it must be a good chance that it is Ambrose (bap. 1726).

Yorkshire: Bishop's transcripts of baptisms
Thank you.  I always like to note down a source, because I'd never remember otherwise.

Just checked and there is also a Susanna Burniston baptised 1810 daughter of John, Quarry Hill - does this help rule Thomas 1812 out?
I see there is an 1855 death for a Thomas Burniston of Leeds, Yks so perhaps the similarity of names is just coincidental.

1813 baptism just says Parish church of Leeds in the County of York.
Ok, thanks.  Do you mind me asking which resource you found the baptism in?

I was just looking at a baptism for Thomas son of John Burniston of Quarry Hill, born 8 Feb 1812 baptised 1 Sept 1812   ???
Hmmm.  That's a bit worryingly close.

There is a baptism on 13th June 1813 for a Thomas Bonaside to John and Effy of Quarry Hill, Leeds.
John is down as a labourer.
Fantastic.  That could be just what I'm looking for.  Which parish is this record from?  Is it also St Peter's?

John Burnside, Shopkeeper & Effia Sophia Ulvan (?), Spinster by Licence
Many thanks again.  I've always thought that this is the correct marriage as I think her name was Euphemia Urwin, so Effie could well be a short version.  Shopkeeper is not quite what I was expecting though!  Might have to give it some thought.

Many thanks.  The extra details (ie of Newbottle which isn't shown on FamilySearch) confirms that it is the correct John Burnside, but this Thomas Burnside was buried at Hexham on the same day that his sister Isabella was baptised (11 Apr 1811).

PS. I don't suppose you have any extra detail for John's marriage at St Peter's, Leeds on 2 Aug 1806?

Seeking a baptism date for Thomas Burnside c.1813-1894.

From the census returns Thomas was born in Leeds, Yorkshire circa 1813 and there are sufficient relational clues to confirm that his parents were John & Euphemia/Euphance Burnside.  John Burnside was a travelling potter and as a result the family appears to have moved around frequently.  Baptisms of other siblings occurred at Newbottle in Co. Durham, Richmond and Leeds in Yorkshire and Hexham in Northumberland, but I haven't found one for Thomas in the right timeframe

I would also be grateful for any information showing how Lavinia Burnside connects to this family (possibly a sibling of Thomas).
