Channel Islands Lookup Requests / Death/burial record in St. Helier, Jersey
« on: Monday 17 January 11 00:13 GMT (UK)  »
Please can anyone confirm for me whether there is a death or burial registered in St. Helier for Tomyns Scott DICKINS in or about 1851?

He would have been about 48 years old, having been born in Yorkshire in 1803. He was a barrister and Justice of the Peace.

Many thanks

Hi Dannielle,

I'll keep your details to hand in case of finding a link at a later date - I bet they are all connected somewhere, if we could sort out the tangled web

Happy hunting!

Hi Jean,

Many thanks for all that - some of these are definitely in my line, though others will need to be worked on!

Was surprised there was so much - and very grateful for your time and effort in copying all the text.  Thank you again.

Best wishes,
Roz

Hi, Danielle,
I note your interest in BLUES/BLEWS of Benholm.  I am descended from Elizabeth BLUES (bap in Benholm in 1746, I think, daughter of Alexander).  She married David SCOTT in 1773.  Any connection?  I know next to nothing about this line, but would be delighted to know if you have any links.
Best wishes,
Roz

The Lighter Side / Re: O and Z - NAMES
« on: Tuesday 17 October 06 21:24 BST (UK)  »
Searching for any information about August Emil Karl Johannes ZANDER, glassblower, born about 1870-71, died U.K. 1919. First wife was Ida (possibly PARK or KERK), from whom he was divorced (when? where? and even more interestingly, why?).  In 1909 he married his second wife Franziska BURGER (d.1914); third wife was Adele Marie HEDEMANN, marr. 1915. Record of baptism and burial of infant son in 1912 refers to him as "of Oldenburg" but have no further details of his birthplace or residence prior to 1909.  Father's name is recorded variously as Johann Friedrich or Johann Christian ZANDER, also a glassblower.  Help - this man is proving very elusive!  Any ideas?

Heatha, how exciting!

John THAIN and his wife Margaret (nee WHITRED/WHITEROD) of Bedingham are my 3xgt.grandparents.  I have singularly failed to trace Margaret's origins - supposedly North Elmham - but have the Thains tracked back to Hempnall and Fritton, where I have got stuck in the 18th century with John and Elizabeth THAIN, born in about 1711 or so.

Do get in touch!

Best wishes,
Roz

Hi Lybis,

Many thanks for your offer.
I am trying to find the family of James NORRIS, born in Bolton in 1849-50.  His father may be named Thomas, and he may have a sister Mary; is this too vague to be feasible?  Family are likely to be involved in mining or weaving (or both).
Many thanks for any help.

Best wishes,
Roz
