Wexford / O'Rourkes of Wexford
« on: Tuesday 01 November 05 22:22 GMT (UK)  »
Looking for any information on the O'Rourke's of Wexford. Per a diary written by my gguncle, the family came from Carnew in Wexford, but I haven't been able to find anything about them ever living in Wexford.

If interested, you can read the diary at: www.midlandroots.com

Also, I have the O'Rourke Gedcom on that site, which you are welcome to peruse.

thanks,
Mamie

Wow! Am I glad I joined this  roots chat!

Monica, How did you get the info on the witnesses?? I was on SP, and I didn't find that info.

The info on Sam & Joseph being brothers is interesting, as well as the info on his parents. Now, I wish I could find some info on Charlotte. Did she die in childbirth, I wonder?

thanks again,
Mamie

Thanks for looking! Samuel was born in Airdrie, but he & Joseph lived in Stevenston in 1861.
Charlotte's name on his death certificate is spelled Scharlotte??
Maybe they never married, or maybe Charlotte died in childbirth??

I am a brick wall here, and my family know nothing because my grandfather married a Catholic, and there was a big rift in the family.

Lanarkshire / 1851 Census Lookup, MCGOWAN
« on: Monday 31 October 05 11:50 GMT (UK)  »
Can anyone help me find my gggrandparents in the 1851 Census for Lanarkshire??

Per the 1861 Census, my ggranfather, Samuel McGowan, was born in 1846 in Aridrie, Lanarkshire to Joseph McGowan and Charlotte Sinclair. By 1861, Joseph was a widower.

thanks,
Mamie
