Florence was my grandmother and I have been down all the same paths that you have. The only extra story I have is that my sister was told that she was born in Florence and that is why she is called that. This is also what the 1891 census says. On Alexander’s death certificate it says she was born in Naples, Italy.

I really like the proposal here that links her to Charles Murray Lugger Cousins. I had come to the conclusion that she was probably illegitimate.

Would there be any Stevensons? I am looking for George born 1793 and William born 1805. The parents were Alexander and Helen and died sometime before 1858.

Thanks for the comments. I had got nowhere looking through parish lists. I hadn't thought about it from a phonetic viewpoint.

The entry is from Logierait, Perthshire in 1695.

I am trying to decipher the name of the parish in this old parish register entry.
I think the entry reads Dec. 8th John McDonald and Isobell Scrimzeour in the parish of ---- had their child baptized and named Alexander.
