Yes. And also the names are in Latin and it is probably different in English (but similar). Maybe someone have an idea about them.

Thank you so much Arthur! It is already helping me to understand the whole thing.

Bookbox, I already read that post. I am a French speaker and when I went to translate it through Google Translate, it was still very confusing. Someone else translated/explained the first part to me in an easiest way and it makes more sense after that. But I wanted the names to be especially ''translated'' or at least anglicized.

Oh, great. Thank you.
Then, I'll post small chunks because it can be a little bit long.

I know many are names. Although, I do not comprehend what is surrounding these names. ???

Hi,
Someone transcribed a post-mortem inquisition in Latin for me but I cannot read it.
I tried to translate it through Google Translate but the document do not make sense. I was wondering if any of you can read latin or understand it? Or if any of you have a website in order to help me deciphering that document?

Thank you,
V.

Canada / Re: Person from Province of Quebec.
« on: Friday 20 May 16 04:51 BST (UK)  »
Hello there,

I have an elusive relative, my husband's great grandfather, who is not French Canadian but did live in Quebec for some 30 years (1844 - 1874) and we can find next to no trace of him there. I am not sure if you can help.

William HARRIS was born in Buckingham, England in 1826. He became a stone mason and came to Canada, landing in Quebec, aboard the 'St. Anne' along with other poor people from his hometown. Then he disappears ... or at least I have not found him! He next reappears in March 1874 when he marries Maria Ann PIERCE in Fitzroy Twp., Carleton County, Ontario, just over the river from Quebec. He is nowhere to be found on any Ontario census before that, so I believe he was working somewhere in Quebec until a job took him to Ontario one day and he met his future wife and stayed.

One small clue - a cabin in Quebec! William's son, William John HARRIS (1879 - 1952) lived most of his life in Fitzroy Twp. but spent a good bit of time in a remote cabin in the small hamlet of Grove Creek, Quebec which is 18 km northeast of Otter Lake. He later brought his own children there at times. The family had no money so I am wondering how they bought a little cabin? It could be that they did not buy it but inherited it from the elder William HARRIS, as this was his home before he went to Ontario in 1874. I am not sure how to connect this to William HARRIS ... by land records perhaps?

I am very unfamiliar with Quebec research. Perhaps you could tell me where I might find some hints as to where William HARRIS was living in those missing 30 years (1844 - 1874) as I am clueless about where to look. Thank you!!

Omd!
I'm so sorry for replying that late! I don't know if you find more information about William Harris but I'm going to look at it if you are still interested!

If you have any ancestors from North Somerset, you could also try this website?
http://www.portbury-hundred.co.uk/

Parish Register transcriptions from many churches in the North of Somerset.
Thank you KGarrad, I will also research on that website.  :)

Hi Venessa

Try typing Ian Sage into Google & when you get to his home page click on parish registers as that will give you links to all the free parish register transcripts that he has found for Somerset

All the very best

Phil
Thank you so much, Phil. I'm gonna take a look on it !

Hi Vanessa (vfrye): Since your posting almost a year ago, how much luck did you have trying to cut through all the confusion with our Frye/Fry ancestors? Believe me! I could relate to your frustration :o! The problem stems from getting facts and dates mixed up for the father/son team of Adrian Sr. and Adrian Jr. and both getting "morphed" into one Adrian. Here are some basics which I hope will help

Adrian Sr. was born circa 1604 and married Margaret Bryant in 1623. She died circa 1643 before the family came to Maine circa 1660. Some sources say he married Hannah White (daughter of John White). That can be ruled since Hannah married Robert Allen. Adrian Sr. did NOT marry Sarah White (Hannah's sister). It's very likely Adrian Sr. never remarried after Margaret's death. Adrian Sr. died in 1695 at age 91.

Adrian Jr. was born circa 1640 (1635 also given). He married Sarah White (born circa 1642) in 1664. I descend from their son William (m. Hannah Hill). Although Adrian Jr. wrote his will in 1692 leaving everything to William for taking care of him and Sarah, his death was closer to 1709 and not 1692 or 1695 as given by many sources.

Over the past 15+ years I've been working on my family history (still a work in progress), I've dealt with unbelievable sloppy misinformation running rampant through ancestry.com and LDS websites. The way the Frye/Fry has been (and still is) handled is the worst by far in my family history.

Enough of my ranting. I'd like to hear how far you've come. If you have any question, I'll be glad to give it my best shot.

Mary

Hi Mary,

I have been researching about my Fry family everytime I could since that post. There is still things to discover! I don't really follow what I find on internet - and people may disagree with me but I prefer backing my information with documents (I found many!).
I'd love to communicate with you if you are willing to do so. It is always amazing to find someone related - and you are descending from another member of the family, which is great.
