Hampshire & IOW Completed Lookup Requests / Re: Fox Farm House, Andover Down
« on: Thursday 17 September 15 21:12 BST (UK)  »
Ruskie and h grandma,
We are in England now and have just today been out to Andover &
Longparish. We found the owner adding to the cottage to be very helpful.
Although the folks in the private house beyond the gate are "private", she was able to confirm that a photo I had, that was taken in 1958 when my sis in law visited, was indeed of the same house.
We have a start, certainly much as a result of all of the help of those on RootsChat who responded to my queries.
Thank you and there will be more research now!

Thank you Kay99 and Ruskie. I have much to go on with your help. I knew of street view, but am happy to have you confirm that there is an actual photo and description of a house up the lane, plus seeing the old map/new one side by side is wonderful-and a new source of info to me-still learning.

Hampshire & IOW Completed Lookup Requests / Fox Farm House, Andover Down
« on: Monday 27 July 15 06:35 BST (UK)  »
There was a property near Andover built about 1880-85 on Andover Down across from Fox Farm called Fox Farm House. It was Thomas Alexander Banks d. 1899, who owned both properties. He built the House. The properties stayed in the Banks name until Thomas A. Banks Jr. died likely in the 1940's, at which time it transferred to his daughter Laura and her husband Jim Croston. They sold Fox Farm House about 1962.

Do Fox Farm House and the farm buildings still exist? My husband's father, also Thomas A. Banks grew up in that house, immigrated to Canada in 1912 but never got back to see it. We are coming in September and will be in Andover sometime then. Maybe someone can tell us if the house and farm are still there or even help us locate it. I am not searching for live relatives. The family history keeper lost touch as long ago as 1958.

Your help is narrowing down my search very well. I see that you, as am I, are a night owl..  ;) I do my best work in the quiet, dark of night.
This is my Thomas A Banks. And it seems he was at Fox Farm or at least Fox Cottages. Elfrida is a family name as is Laura in recent generations.
My search skills with census have not been developed at all, so I do presently appreciate your help.

Thank you for such complete information. The BANKSES I am searching seem to have matches to what you have presented. However, I expected to find:
Thomas Alexander Banks b. abt 1859, son of Thomas A Banks.  This Thomas A. Banks was married to Laura Stokes and  lived in Fulham, Middlesex, before moving to Andover area about 1904-6.
HIS son, Thomas A Banks was born in in Fulham, Middlesex, 1899. Thomas b. 1899 is my husband's father.
Perhaps I have led myself astray and mistaken Fox Farm for another farm Thomas b.1859 came back to in Andover Down/Longparish.
I am not aware of what Emma Banks' maiden might have been. I have not heard of 'Lucken".

Hampshire & IOW Completed Lookup Requests / Andover Down, Banks family, farmers
« on: Sunday 07 June 15 05:42 BST (UK)  »
Greetings

Does someone know the history of the Thomas Alexander Banks family at Fox Farm, Andover Down.

    1. I believe Thomas Alexander Banks, b. 1824, lived and farmed there sometime after 1870.

    2. Who were Thomas Alexander Banks and his wife's b. 1825, family?

     3. Did the farm remain in the family? Until when?

Thank you

Thank you for the information-- already.  That fills in much of Dad Tom's parents' info. Being so new at this, I am floundering just finding my way around RootsChat itself, never mind figuring out how to use the plethora of resources.

I must now seek out the children of Thomas Alexander Banks b. 1824 d. 1899 and Emma d. 1884 in Andover, Hampshire.
