Thank you, James was the last relative I've been able to find quite a lot about, both before and after he came to Canada. Now trying to find his father, but with only 'Gibson' listed it's difficult. Wondering if there are any Gibsons still in the area, hoping to travel there at some point. Thanks again for the info, especially the map of Blind Hill Bush!

Looking for Gibsons in the Applegarth area of Dumfriesshire in the 18th century. They were likely farmers. Hit a wall after finding my 3X Great Grandfather James and wife Helen Little who came to Canada in 1815.

Thank you for the clues Annie, hope to make the trip to Dumfriesshire in the next year or so to see where my family began.

Hi, the census says this Alexander is unmarried. The Alexander I'm looking for did have a son named for him but he would have only been 63 when the census was done. I did see something about him being in Gilchristland though. All I've been able to find on that place is that there are holiday cottages for let. Thanks for the info, much appreciated!

Looking for info on my 5x Gr. Grandfather Alexander Gibson. Married to Elizabeth Ritchie (or Richie), no date but first child (James) was born in 1774 at Closeburn.
Have found a death notice from Closeburn Parish 1791 that says 'died in Gilchristland' but haven't been able to find out for sure if it's him, or where Gilchristland is/was. Any help much appreciated.
