Yorkshire (East Riding & York) / Annie Haystead
« on: Sunday 05 March 06 12:21 GMT (UK)  »
Trying to locate my Grandmother Mary Broadbent (nee Clark/e's) mother.  I think I have found the birth record in 1914 showing a Mary Clark born to a Annie Haystead in the Driffield registration district.  I know that Mary was born in Kirby Grindalythe on 18.01.14.  I have found Annie in the 1901 census working at the vicarage in Kirby Grindalythe.

I can find no record of her before this.  She was born c1882 in Langton, Yorkshire.  Mary's father was a Frederick Clark & the most likely match I have come across was born in 1883 in Lartington.  Frederick was an agricultural worker.  I can find no record of their marriage or Annie's death (she died young).

I think I've found them.

1861 census shows a Daniel & Sarah Richards born 1820 Glos & 1819 Derbyshire. The original census actually reads as Rickards.  They have a daughter Emma about the right age & a son Henry born in the right year.

Looking at other records - I think that the correct name should be actually Rickards & not Rickerds

Yes it does, thanks!  It would tie in with the brother's date of birth showing in the 1871 census.

I just need to find Emma's parents now - my gt gt gt grandparents!

It makes me wonder if they ever did get married & she just adopted his surname!

Reading something yesterday that said that even though marriages have been registered since 1837 it wasn't fully enforced until 1882.

John & Mary Ann's first child was John Thomas Kellow, born in Blaina South Wales in 1846

There does seem to have been a few John Kellows born in Gwenapp around 1821!

Not heard of a Brighton Crescent in Brid - it should probably be Bright Crescent which is near the seafront off Promenade.

Gloucestershire / Emma Rickerds
« on: Sunday 26 February 06 20:42 GMT (UK)  »
My gt gt grandfather Edward Gillett b 1848 from Cheltenham married Emma Rickerds b1851 from Cheltenham.  On census night 1871 her brother Henry Rickerds was staying with them.

I can't find any record of either of the Rickerd's birth or anyone or a similar name, or Edward & Emma's marriage.

Any suggestions anyone?

Thanks

Cornwall / John KELLOW
« on: Sunday 26 February 06 20:29 GMT (UK)  »
My gt gt gt grandfather John Kellow was born in Gwennap, Cornwall c1821.  He married Mary Ann Jenkins born c1822 from Marmon/Llandilo? South Wales.

Would like to find their marriage - have seen that they were according to their son John Thomas Kellow's birth cert.

I think that possibly his parents were Samson Kellow (Kelly) & Catherine but I have not found a way to prove this.

Any one any ideas?

Also, if the surname was Kelly then , did they migrate from Ireland to work in the tin mines?

Yorkshire (West Riding) / Rosamond Wood - Horsforth

Looking for Rosamond Wood - born in Horsforth mid 1840's.  She married John Broadbent, born in Pudsey 1846.  They later moved to Bridlington.  She's not listed on the IGI Indexes.  Have come across 2 Rosamond Wood's but don't know which is which as can't find John & Rosamond's marriage.
