Oh this man, why couldn't I have been interested in my family history when I was 10 yrs old.
I'v had a look, there are 4 Samuel Millers with a wife named Martha, I'm not sure that is my man but will keep it for future reference. Joseph or James always told my mum his parents where Lithuainian but that could have just been a fib as he couldn't even decide what his name was

Thanks for you help ainsley :P

Hi, he was married in 1922 to Margaret Patterson he states his name as James Samuel Miller, although we always knew him as Uncle Joe. on his marriage certificate he has his soldiers number, but since looking through all my paperwork today i have him with the same service number as joseph samuel. This man is such a mystery to me

Thanks ainsley ???

Hi could any of you lovely people please look up James Samuel Miller on the 1901/1911 census. I know he lived in Newcastle in 1922, but not sure of his birth place or place of residence at the census time. He was possibly born 1896 and his father was Samuel Miller possibly born Lithuainia.

This man is a bit of a mystery to me, we knew him as Joseph Samuel Miller, so the name James was a bit of a suprise to us

Thanks ainsley :)

Finally received marriage cert, to find that the man my mum called uncle Joe all her life was married under the name James Samuel Miller. They married on 21st June 1922 in Newcastle, age 26. Nothing about him being from Lithuainia though. His fathers name is Samuel Miller occupation Sea Pilot.
Joe's/James was a Gunner in the Royal Field Artiliry , address Fenham Barracks Newcastle.

I'm really stumpted now because obviously Uncle Joe didn't always tell whole truths so don't know what to believe anymore. Arrrgh
