Yes true it is broad; I'm looking at incorporating some history about their emigration to our country for use in a presentation paper, hence the title of my post.  In looking closer at some of the historical writings about it I can see what you mean however because there is a lot about it.

Yes well said from everyone.  Perhaps reevaluate where Mary Donaldson came from?  Who told you this or where did you see it?  Was that perhaps where the mistake was made?  Obviously Anna McDowell was someone that Mary Ann spoke of as being her mother, or similar, or I don't believe her husband would have listed this name.  Perhaps yes, she was a step sister instead of biological sister to your grandfather, or even cousin.  Death certificates can be some of the most misleading documents in our field and always seem to necessitate further investigation than we expect.  I would be interested to know the outcome of what you find.

Yes me too, darn well said pmgreen.  Why would I want anyone else spending years and years trying to find something that I can help them with?  Although in my day we did an immense amount of travel to accomplish a true genealogical profile...these days it seems too easy, but I love it all the same.  What once took me over 5 years to prove, crossing 3 continents, is now able to be done with just the click of a few buttons, amazing!  I am a full supporter of Ancestry and similar sites and intend to make full use of them before the flying rats drive me to insanity!!!

Yes of course they did, good point.  If only it were that easy for some of them coming out of jails here today...ah but that is another sad story no?  Hmmm...it never ceases to amaze me this stuff; from loom spinner to convict to constable...fascinating!

Totally agree Lydia...and maybe some more rules around this too.  But you know what they say, here in Facebook land they tell us whatever is on the internet is anyone's!!!  I still believe we need to have ethics and morals around that...and that comes down to the individual.  Be careful with photos you don't want shared!!
