Glamorganshire Completed Lookups / Re: parish church ystradyfodwg
« on: Friday 19 February 16 20:01 GMT (UK)  »
Hello all,
I realize this is a very old thread however I had some questions about my LLEWELYN HOWELL and bride being married 13 May 1746 in Ystradyfodwg.

Her name is not included but Glamorgan Family History Society web doc claims it was both their parish. Any advise on where to continue my search?
If I have the correct Llewelyn then, both moved to Pennsylvania a few years later. I would very much like to discover her maiden name.

Hello!
Searching for traces of grandfather Llewellyn J Howell and Grandmother Esther M, born about 1725 and "flew" from Swansea around 1755 and landed in the American colonies (Pennsylvania).

Looking for fellow Howell seekers, as well. I recently moved to Wales from the "States", here to stay.  :D

I realize that Hesther/Esther/Hester is the same name, so this info seems to be flawed to me.

Esther M. Hester b.1725 Wales  d. 1803 America - Pennsylvania. married Llewellyn Howell 1753

From DAR : EL: ESTHER HOWELL IS DAUGHTER OF LLEWELLYN HOWELL, SR. & SISTER OF PHILIP HOWELL

Good morning Pej and Marg!
Thanks!

Last night I found some info online that may be a lead, on  I do not know how reliable the source is - and there is a fee to view the document. I am at early stages and I do not know how much I want to invest in research.  The listing is interesting however:

HOWELL    HESTHER    born. 1752 — baptized 1752    Carmarthen Baptisms    Llandeilo Fawr, Carmarthenshire, Wales

My family history and research thru the DAR shows Esther and Llewellyn J Howell married in 1753, with son, Philip born abt 1758.  All 3 died in Pennsylvania.  There is a mention of a sister to Philip - named Esther on the DAR database, however they did not accept the paperwork as authentic for some reason in the 60s.

Glamorganshire / Searching for leads in Swansea - HOWELL 1700s

Hello all,
This is my first post to this wonderful forum. (newbie). I have just recently moved to Wales from the USA. My husband was raised in Wales and he has brought me home!

I have found information through the combination of the Daughters of the American Revolution database and my own family record that my 6x grandfather was born in Swansea abt 1725, as was his wife.

Llewellyn J. Howell b.1725 Swansea  d. Jun 26 1804 America - Pennsylvania
Esther M. Hester?? b.1725 Wales  d. 1803 America - Pennsylvania
married 1753

My grandfather 5x, Philip Howell b.abt 1758 (America?), became a lieutenant in the American Revolution. No other information is known about them.

I was wondering what was going on in Swansea in the first half of 1700s and what might have enticed them to emigrate to the turbulent colonies?

Any suggestions on where to start looking for records of their births and any records of their ancestors would be greatly welcomed.

Thank you,
Wendy
