Hi Anne
Wow! no I didn't know about all this, neither does anyone else in the family,
Didn't know my Grandfather had ever been to Canada (maybe he was just saying that as an Excuse?)
He was a Doctor of Divinity & interestingly was living with my Grandmother before 1889 when their first child was born. They got around to marrying in 1907 after the birth of their third child.
I would love to PM you, if I knew what it was, how do I do this?

hi Lodger

My Bad! I went back & looked & it does say Brandon Hotel, I imagine I just assumed Brandon Hotel would be in Brandon St.
So do you know if James Craig, Mary Craig's father was owner of the Cross Hotel in Muir St.?

Hi Lodger

Looked at P.11 only thing I could see  was the extract from the booklet on Motherwell & it says" when David Hamilton of the Brandon St. Hotel was married"
Also  other documents, census, children' birth notices, the death notices for David Hamilton & Mary Craig  that I have, all say Brandon st.

Hi Lodger

David Hamilton & Mary Craig were the Brandon St Hotel.
According to Anne, Mary Craigs father James Craig was the Crown.
I haven't heard back from her where her information came from.
cheers

Hi Anne

David Hamilton & Mary Craig of The Brandon Street Hotel were my great grandparents. Their marriage was Proclaimed on 11th August (which I take to mean the banns were called)in the parish of Hamilton. As they weren't called again I assume they were married the same day.
I had Mary's father's name, James,  but did not know he was the owner of the Crown Bar in Muir st, can I ask where you got the information?
I have James Craig married to Elizabeth Gray, this information is on Mary Hamilton m/S Craig's death certificate.

hi Lodger
I am not long back from a month in Britain & visited my Great, Great Grandfather Andrew Hamilton & family's grave in Bothwell churchyard. He & his wife had 10 children, 8 of which are buried with them & appear to have never married. Of the two who did married, the daughter appears to have had no children.Only my Great grandfather David had a family; luckily for me!
I also now have a copy of the booklet mentioning my Great grandfather David.
Still no further forward finding his grave or that of my Grandfather Andrew Craig.
As everybody said he is not in Hamilton Old Church & Priestfield, Stonehouse & West cemetaries all appear far too modern.
cheers

I had no idea where my Gt.Gt. Grandparents were buried.
Bothwell Churchyard is now on  my Radar.

Thanks for all that.
I don't seem to be able to print the uploads however.
The Mrs D. Hamilton, Brandon Hotel cross would most likely be my Gt grandmother.
None of the family that I know of were bakers, but there seem to have been lots of Hamiltons in Motherwell.
David Hamilton's father was Andrew Hamilton abt 1772  & died abt 1849.
His mother was Mary Paterson B. 3 May 1782 in Eastwood D. 13 Oct 1868 in Millside ? Bothwell

My mother wrote" my father buried in Hamilton (scored out at a later date when she had developed Alzheimers & Bothwell inserted) Parish Church, Same grave as his mother. My Brother Douglas given deeds to burial plot as eldest son. My brother Leslie had a new gravestone erected when he went to Lanarkshire to work"
