I can't tell you how grateful I am to you for this information.  The grave you have found is my great grandfather and his first and second wives and also the husband of a great aunt.

Many thanks for this.

Many thanks for the offer.

I don't know how these things are sorted - if you check by name or date.  If it is by name, anything on anyone with the surname Dairon is going to be a relative.

If by date,  then all I have are year dates.  Catherine Dairon died in 1928 and her husband Gilbert Fleming are both definitely buried at Sighthill.

However, its Catherine's father and grandfather, both James Dairon, that I am particularly interested in.  I don't have a death date for James senior - I only know it was sometime between 1826 and 1855 but James junior died on 30 November 1891.

Grateful for anything you can find but I realise this is pretty pathetic detail to go on so please do not spend too much time on it.

Cheers

Many thanks for this.  A trip through to Glasgow myself would be great - one of those days.  I'll maybe try the look-ups idea though and see if anyone can do that for me.

I think the Marr family moved between North Berwickand Dunbar, and sometimes Cockenzie /Port Seton / Prestonpans.

My G - Grandfather Robert Marr was born in North Berwick in 1803.   He had a sister Anne who was the first child of the family and born in Leith (1800) but all the rest of the family were born in North Berwick.  Mary (1801) Robert (1803) Jean (Jane) (1806) William (1808) Janet (1810) and Peter (1811).   Their parents were Robert Marr and Janet Russell who married in Leith in 1799.

At some point either the whole family, or Robert when he got to working age, moved to Dunbar.  Am still trying to track the deaths of the parents.

The Port of Leith and these other villages are all fairly close on the Firth of Forth so it is extremely likely they would just have moved from one village to another depending on work.

The Marr men were all involved in the lifeboats and I have an interesting news cutting of a rescue which I am happy to try and post if anyone is interested.

Anyone able to help me out with Monumental Inscriptiosn from Sighthill Cemetery?

The name I am looking for is Dairon, particularly Helen Dairon (although any would be interesting) who died in 1860.  Her husband was James Dairon who died before her but I don't know when and I am hoping the MI might be able to tell me.

Martha Sloan was my great grandmother so I have lots on the Sloan family who came from Ireland in the late 1840's.  Most settled in West Lothian, G-Grandma went to DUnbar and another sister went to America / Canada.

Many thanks to all who responded on this.  I now know where Oak Villa is and have even seen  a 'picture' through maps.live.  What a great website that is!

The Bennett's came from Saline so I would be interested in any there.  IF there are too many to mention then I would be particularly interested in James Bennett (born 1767) and his wife Sarah Fotheringham (born 1770).  I don't know when they died though.  However, as the youngest child I know off was born in 1815 I guess it is sometime between after that.  I have a feeling James was a gardener.

I am also interested in the Philips from Crail.George Philips and Isabel Wishart who married there in 1750 but I do not know when they died.  Also John Matthew and Louisa Maver.  Again, married in 1759 but I don't know death date.

If that is not enough info then thanks anyway for the offer.

Cheers

Annie
