Offaly (Kings) / Re: Coghlan's of Kings County
« on: Saturday 20 February 16 04:18 GMT (UK)  »
Greetings from Canada! -- Not sure if anyone can help me on these early dates? 1800's -- My gr.gr.Grandfather Stewart Coghlan, [married to Mary Mitchell] imigrated to Canada, in 1827. In 1843, and 1845, he sent money back to his family in Gillian, P.O. Fairbairn, to help them, then move across into Canada. -- One brother, James and wife Ann [Tone] Coghlan, with possible children of Patrick, Charles, Thomas and John. Another brother, of Stewarts, was Malachy Coghlan, who also came to Canada, in around 1845. -- I'm curious to know, if there's anything that can be found out about this family, in Ireland, before they moved here? --- Stewart, James and Malachy, were the late sons of a Thomas Coghlan, of Parish of Eglish, Kings County. -- thank you for your time. --- Pat

Thank you. I have already searched the parish records and found the parents and many other children born in the parish.

It might help your research to know that Fivealley is in the Catholic parish of Eglish in the Diocese of Meath.  Birr is in the neighboring Catholic parish of Birr in the Diocese of Killaloe. You will need this info in searching baptism and marriage records.

Kinnitty is nearby but I believe is in yet another Catholic parish, Seirkieran.

My HERRICK ancestors were from the parish of Eglish and immigrated from there to NYC in the 1830s-1860s.  TOWERS, COUGHLIN, and DOYLE are names of local families who are also my ancestors. I was fortunate enough to visit the area in 2011 and attend Mass at the church in Eglish which dates to my great-great grandparents' time.  I left a small stone from my garden on the famine memorial at the church.

I would be very interested in your Coghlan/Coughlan/ Coughlin names from the Eglish parish Alison. My Coghlans also are from here. Many records are now online  http://registers.nli.ie/parishes/0928

Hi Jess,,
This is an old post and it is at times like this I am glad I have the same email address. I am also a descendant of the Higgins line. I have most information on the Higgins line but have never found which ship Timothy arrived on. He does not show up on any shipping sites. I probably need to buy some birth, deaths and marriage certificates!!

This is like looking for a needle in a haystack but here goes.

I have a George Edward Peachey born about 1835 somewhere in Suffolk. He died in Australia in 1892. His parents are listed as George and Elma. I have not been able to find when or where he came to Australia. :D :D :D
