World War One / McCullough brothers of Garvaghy, Co. Down, Ire.
« on: Thursday 12 January 17 17:26 GMT (UK)  »
Samuel McCullough - born on 27 Nov 1894 Tullinisky/Garvaghy/Down, Ireland to Samuel McCullough & Margaret Anne Malcomson.
Baptised on 24 Sept 1895 in Garvaghy Presbyterian Church, Ire.
Shown age 6 in 1901 Census, Tullinisky, Garvaghy, Down, but no record of him with the family in the 1911 Census, Fedany/Fedney, Garvaghy, Down.
The only other record I can find for him is his ATTESTATION PAPER - Canadian Over-seas Expeditionary Force, No. 148170, dated Aug 1915, Birtle, Man. (Manitoba ?.
Mrs. S McCullough of Fedney Banbridge, Ireland recorded as next of kin and that he belonged to the 100th Winnipeg Grenadiers.
Any information on him would be most welcome to help fill in the blanks between 1901 and 1915
and whether or not he fought in Europe and survived.
Samuel also had a brother William Thomas (born 6 Nov 1897) who is recorded with the family in the 1901 & 1911 Census, and then on 28 Apr 1923 arriving at Quebec on-board SS Regina, destination Forest, Ontario.
Any help with the above would be much appreciated.

I think my next move is to try the surviving family members in Co. Down again and see if I can glean any snippets of information which may help.
In the mean time I'm hoping someone might come across this request and be able to help.

Canada Lookup Request / Re: JOHN LOWERY HANNA
« on: Saturday 19 November 16 19:32 GMT (UK)  »
Greetings
I've just been able to view the original marriage record held by Garvaghy Presbyterian Church which gives the date of marriage as 4 Apr 1911. The bride Georgina Martin has her father recorded as ROBERT. John Lowery Hanna's father's name is not recorded on the entry.
John's birth record in GRONI - U/1889/35/1006/7/312 - gives his father as Samuel Hanna of Aughnaskeagh.
According to the baptismal records and family information John and Georgina had at least two daughters, none of which followed John to Canada.
The name - CRUMCREA - I think this may be an error as it does not exist in Co. Down.
Any suggestions on how I might further my search for John's death and burial details?
 Best regards JARRO

JOHN LOWERY HANNA – Dromara, Ireland/Canada.
Born 4 Dec 1889 Dromara, Co. Down, Ireland to Samuel Hanna & Mary Christina Gibson. There is a record of him – ‘Hanna John L’. – Age 35, on board SS Aurania sailing from Belfast on 21 Mar 1925 - Arriving Halifax, Canada on 29 Mar 1925. The destination is given as REGINA, SASK.

APOLIGIES EVERYONE - I mistyped the marriage year, 1871 is correct. My mistake.
Thank you also for the Scottish birth date. Without your help I would never have found that one.

Meekin is some times spelt - Meakin / Meekan / Meekans - possible other variations.

 Need help with
  1. A brother James b. 13 Aug 1875  --  I can find no other records for him - can anyone help?
(There is a vague family story that he may have had a shop in Belfast, and later went to
      USA ? / Canada ?) ????

  2. Another possible brother - William - Death record dated 27 Jul 1878 states age at death 5 yrs.

  3. On all of the children's birth records the father (James) is recorded as being from Carnew,        except the birth record for James. On his record it gives "Glasgow, Scotland".
Can anyone shed any light on this?

.     All information and advice gratefully received.    JARRO
