Wiltshire Lookup Requests / Re: Solomon Hulbert
« on: Wednesday 26 February 20 20:55 GMT (UK)  »
If you look at my website:

https://hulbert.one-name.net/genealogy/getperson.php?personID=I6121&tree=tree1

you will find Solomon's ancestry traced back to about 1500 - he is a distant cousin of mine (if my tree is accurate of course).

I would welcome any information about his descendants to add to the website.

I have started a new topic called Researching the ancient Hulbert family

Wiltshire / Researching the ancient Hulbert family

I am trying to create a reliable and properly sourced ancestral tree for 16th century Hulberts/Hurlbatts/etc and would welcome advice and contributions, particularly with respect to:

1. what is/are the most plausible/reliable online family trees for early Hulberts?

2. what resources are available apart from the following (which I am already aware of)

The National Archives at Kew
Wiltshire and Swindon Archives (and other counties - Surrey, Hampshire etc)
Kington Baker papers at Society of Genealogists
Hulbert Jackson papers at Portsmouth City Library
other papers at SOG: Swaynes of Wiltshire, Redmans of Halfway House
Books: Monumental Inscriptions of Wiltshire by Phillips, A History of St Bartholomew Church in Corsham  by Brakspear
various Heralds Visitations, Stowe MS 677 (British Library), publications of Wilshire History Society

3 any information about the original manuscript or subsequent transcriptions of Henry Carlton Hulbert's "The Hulbert Family 1305 - "  Microfilm 908504 Item 4 in Family History Library Utah.  I have found one transcription by Arthur C Hulbert on a family tree on RootsWeb by Gene Perkins

There was a Gifford Hulbert christened 9 Oct 1653 in Corsham to John Hulbert of Velly and Alice Billet married 10 Nov 1640 in Chalfield. John died about 1671 (grant of administration to wife 12 Jan 1671/72). I have details of eight children but no ancestry for John.

There was also a Gifford christened 1st June 1643 in Corsham to William Hulbert and Elinor Jones  and a brother of William called Gifford christened 24 March 1618/19.

There were several different families of Hulberts in Corsham during the 1500s and I don't think it is possible that they were all descended from one John Hurlbatt from Hampshire. Do you know where there are reliable details of the "ancient family" .
