England / Re: Locating clip of great granddad in 1970s UK TV programme

Hi candleflame,

Thanks for your help.

Yes, we’ve already Googled with no luck.

A search of the BBCs Radio Times programme index for ‘Berlin’ during the 1970s didn’t find the programme so I assume it was on ITV. I emailed ITV back in 2017 and received no response but will try again. I will also try contacting the BBC archive department  and BFI.

England / Locating clip of great granddad in 1970s UK TV programme
« on: Monday 20 March 23 08:09 GMT (UK)  »
I am trying to locate the only video clip of my great grandfather Max, in a documentary of the parks of Berlin in a programme (or episode) we believe was called 'The Parks of Berlin'. It was broadcast in the UK around about  1971/72. The clip shows him in Viktoriapark in Kreuzberg, watching a chess game being played.

It’s a bit of a long shot but would anyone be able to help at all please? We have been trying to find it for many years now and it would be incredibly special for the whole family to see it, especially his 94 year old daughter.

Europe / Re: 1917 German postcard translation

Thank you so much, Dave. That now puts a name to the face on the front of the postcard. Anna had a sister named Frieda.

Best regards,
Chris

Europe / 1917 German postcard translation

Hello all,

Could anyone please help me translate the attached postcard from German to English? I'm having some difficulty with the handwriting.

Kind regards,
Chris

Unconvinced by who I spoke to at East London Cemetery the first time round I phoned again today. This time the person was very helpful and confirmed that he is in fact buried there!

Thank you for your help. I contacted SHC and they do have a paid research service but with their fees it'd be more worth my while visiting in person. However, now knowing that his wife wasn't buried there, it seems unlikely that he would've been either.

I phoned East London Cemetery, Plaistow a few years back and they couldn't find him there but advised he would've been buried at Bow Cemetery. I searched there with no success either.

Yes but it is very costly. Surrey History Centre holds copies of the burial registers which I believe are free to search.

Surrey Lookup Requests / Surrey History Centre lookup request - burial of Isaiah Golding
« on: Tuesday 24 September 19 18:51 BST (UK)  »
I'd be very grateful if anyone visiting the centre could check the Brookwood Cemetery burial records for me please. I've searched many East London cemetery records with no success.

My ancestor's death certificate gives the following details:
Isaiah Golding died 10th Aug 1902 at 23 Morris Road, Bromley (by Bow) at the age of 62.

I'm hoping that if he's there, then many other family members will be too in which case I'll make a visit myself.

If someone could do this it would be very much appreciated.

Chris

London and Middlesex / Re: Married 13 years after first child?
« on: Tuesday 22 January 19 17:21 GMT (UK)  »
It's very possible that they simply didn't marry until then.

Could it also have been possible that their first marriage to each other wasn't recognised by law? Up until the Marriage Act of 1836, to be legally binding, non-conformists were required to be married in Anglican churches rather than in their own places of worship.
