Essex Completed Lookup Requests / All Saints West Ham PR Lookup Please
« on: Sunday 06 April 08 23:26 BST (UK)  »
 ;)

I am looking for a marriage between Ann George and George Hardy. If I have the correct church it may have taken place on 19th June 1810. Any information from the PR relating to either of these manes would be very helpful.

Many thanks

 ;D

London & Middlesex Completed Lookup Requests / Burial 1841 - 1851 George Hardy
« on: Thursday 01 June 06 23:25 BST (UK)  »
I am looking for the burial of George Hardy occupation Millar born (I think) 25 May 1789 in Middlesex. Last found on census 1841 living with 2nd wife Ann at Robert Street Poplar All Saints Parish.

Ann was noted as a widow in 1851 census. She was living at 9 Victoria Place Poplar.

I have looked at the index for Tower Hamlets Cemetery and I didn't find him listed there - but I was running out of time so it is always possible I  missed the entry.

I am not sure where else he could be so any help with this would be very welcome.

Thank you  :)

Occupation Interests / Millwright
« on: Tuesday 15 February 05 23:21 GMT (UK)  »
My GGrandfather was a millwright. Born around 1855-60. Don't know where he was born but he lived in Stepney and West Ham area from 1887. My mother seems to think that he was employed at Meux brewery which later became Friary Meux.

I don't really know too much about the training for a Millwright but I suspect that my GGrandfather was too late for apprenticeship records to be of any use.

His death certificate records his occupation as being an engineers pattern maker.

Any information on the above occupations would be interesting.

England / Alfred Ernest Hardy
« on: Wednesday 09 February 05 18:06 GMT (UK)  »
Anyone out there related to Alfred Ernest Hardy? He was my Great grandfather born somewhere around 1855-1865. He married Emma Jane Mundy/Munday in 1884 and had 4 children Alfred Ernest 1887 born in Limehouse, Mabel Lilian 1887 West Ham, Horace Leonard 1890 West Ham and Violet 1895 West Ham.
Alfred Ernest Snr died in 1938 in East Ham. He was a millwright  and there is some suggestion that he may have had a conection with a shoe making family and some other suggestion that he had a brother working as an engineer at Nottingham water works.
I have traced some of his grand children but they do not know or cannot remember much about him - and there are no good leads to his birth -  he gives his father's name on his marriage certificate as William and states he is deceased. The only census I can find him on is 1901 and his birth place is given as London - but not been able to verify that.
Would be good to hear from anyone with interest in this family name.:-X

Nottinghamshire / Re:Hardy Alfred, 1858, Nottingham

Thank you for looking. Someone else has also looked in the census for West Ham and Limehouse with no luck.

The only info I have on Alfred Ernest is what he supplied on his marriage certificate and that given on his death certificate and the 1901 census.

Marriage - 19th Oct 1884 Trinity Church Parish of St Mary Newington Surrey.
Alfred Ernest Hardy  aged 25 a millwright batchelor father William Hardy Deceased.
Address Bath Terrace

Emma Jane Mundy aged 24 spinster
father Wlliam Mundy Gardener
same address

I know that she was born in Ramsgate Kent in 1856 and have found most of her family in various census.

Alfred died in 1938 in East Ham and his age on the death certificate was given as 81

On the 1901 census his birth place was given as London and his age as 40.

All other info is based upon family stories but no firm detail - just faded memories but anyone who knew him is well in their 80's - so shouldn't expect too much. After all I never asked my grandfather where he was born!

Being in the next village must help in your research.

Completed Census Requests / Re:1891 census West Ham - HardyFamily
« on: Friday 07 May 04 18:46 BST (UK)  »
Thank you for taking the trouble to look in the 1891 census for me. I have looked and thought that it must be me missing them.

Emma Jane was born in Cliffe End Ramsgate Kent in 1856 but on the 1881 census her birth year was given as 1847. In 1884 she married Alfred Ernest and gave her age as 24 but on the 1901 census her age is given as 43.

Alfred Ernest said on his marriage certificate in 1884 that he was 25. On the 1901 census his age is give as aged 40 born London. So far no luck with his birth but going on the above it is between 1858 and 1862.

I can only assume that they were elsewhere on census night - although someone did mention that some households were just recorded with initials for their christian names. Then there is the possibility that they have been transcribed incorrectly ie Flardy and Heardy.

Could take years to find them!

Nottinghamshire / Hardy Alfred, 1858, Nottingham

Thanks for the reply

No - no connection to Nottingham yet proven ( much to my husbands disappointment - I understand there is a Hardy interest in a Nottingham real ale brewery). My research for the birth of my maternal grt grandfather was clutching at straws - my mother having a vague idea that her grandfather may have come from Nottingham - based on some information that a grt uncle was the chief engineer at the water works there.

Can't find said grt grandfather (Alfred Ernest) in 1881 census or even in 1891 when he had a family. On 1901 his birth place was given as London - but as yet no joy. He was probably born  between 1859 and 1861.
