Some more info from Isabella's death certificate, Isabella Henry Drysdale died 18 April 1877 in Palmerston. She had been in NZ 16 years (consistent with arriving on the Pladda in 1861).  She had 3 living male children (also consistent with records you listed). Her husband was Robert Drysdale.  He signed Isabella's death certificate so he was certainly still alive in 1877, indeed I believe he died in Kurow on 3 March 1893, but I've yet to obtain his actual death certificate.

Robert DRYSDALE was born circa 1834 Mochrum, Wigtown, Scotland and married Isabella HENERY on 23 November 1857 at Old Luce, Wigtown, Scotland. The 1861 census has them at The Barbeth Farm, Cottage House, Kirkcolm, Wigtown, Scotland.  They then came to NZ aboard the Platta.  Robert and Isabella appear as the parents on the death record for one of my ancestors, Annie McCALL (nee DRYSDALE).  But in fact, it appears my Annie was actually the illegitimate child of Robert and another woman named Mary ANDERSON (verified by her Scottish birth date and the 1861 census).  Mary died when Annie was 4 (also in 1861).  Annie also came to Otago but it seems not with Robert and Isabella.  Possibly Annie did not arrive in NZ until as late as 1876 (aboard the Pomond) and quickly married Hugh McCALL on arrival -- I've got some more checking to do about this.

New Zealand Completed Requests / Re: Still Chasing the ST. HILL Family
« on: Wednesday 08 July 15 11:03 BST (UK)  »
From TROVE - Hobart Mercury Wednesday 3 March 1937 - The engagement is announced of Audrey Jessica, only daughter of Mr and Mrs. C. S. Belford, The Continental, Macquarie St., Hobart, and William! eldest son of Mr. and Mrs. R. L. St. Hill, Awatea, 4 Proctors Rd., Hobart!

I believe R. L. ST HILL is actually Reginald Leslie ST HILL who had several children including Elizabeth (Beth) who married Trevor GORRINGE and Kathleen who married Alan BIDENCOPE.  All of Tasmania.  I have the initials E. O. ? for the wife of Reginald Leslie ST HILL but have not yet discovered her full name or maiden name.

Good find. The letters mentioned in the Wikipedia article can be accessed here:

but I can see no further clue in them.

I too would really like to know the answer to your question, since Esdras is one of my ancestors. I have asked several people with such a link in there tree, but no one has been able to provide any concrete evidence.

"The Yeoman Pioneer: The Story of George and Sally Giddy and Their Family" by Joyce GIDDY published New Zealand circa 1985 (of which I have a copy) shows Esdras GIDDY m. Honour ?. But no surname for Honour is given.  I suspect it was based on the Liskeard records already mentioned.

There is also "Prideaux: A West Country Clan" by R.M. Prideaux which might possibly offer some clue, but I have not seen a copy and it looks very expensive to buy.

Cheers,
Sean.
