Hi Kathb
Many thanks for your reply. I am mystified by what has been removed by the moderator?
In the 1851 census Mary and Thomas lived at 66 Guide Lane, Hooly Hill Village. Ashton-under Lynne. Mary Jane Handley(first child) born Runcorn as we know, William Handley(1850 second child) born Manchester. Hooly Hill being part of Manchester. I to found the same record as you with the same results, I have been through all the available IGI' again drawing a blank and I don't know what to do next? Any suggestions?
On a more lighter note in trolling through the IGI's I think I have found more links to the Handley family through John Handley(1780 Runcorn) spouse Ann Hatton(1781 Lower Peover) and the children of that marriage, they seem to link in but yet to be proved.
Well Peover isn't that far so I think it might be worth a trip, that and a trip to the Library at the Shopping City in Runcorn.
By the way do you think it is worth sending for the marriage cert. without the knowing who is Mary Drinkwater's partner?
Many thaks for you reply
Best wishes
Ron

Cheshire / Handley/Drinkwater family of Runcorn

Hi
Can anybody please help me as I am having problems tracing the parents of both Thomas Handley(c1825) Runcorn(sailmaker) married Mary Drinkwater(c1827) born Aughton(I believe this to be Haughton)/Astmore. The names came form birth certificate of son Benjamin(born Liverpool 1869). I have been unable to trace marriage certificate and can only assume they married in Runcorn as first child Mary Jane Handley was born Runcorn(c1849). I have tried
1837 and FreeBMD but could find nothing.
Best wishes

Hi Dimps
Just me being sensitive.
Mary Ann Harris was born Liverpool(c1822) and I can not trace the family in the 1881 census. (all the others yes)
In the 1851 census I found a Mary Ann Harris(c1822) born Liverpool servant Mile End Road. Tower Hamlets
Other than that I am lost. Had another go at 1837 today but could find nothing in the way of a marriage cert. assuming they got married round the time of the birth of Frederick 1857 Aston Birmingham?
But many thanks for your time.
Best wishes

Hi Dimps
Many thanks for your offer of help. I do apologise for posting on the wrong board and also for being quite a bit out with my information as you will see.
The information should have read my Great Great Grandad as follows.
John Terry(1822) married Mary Ann Harris c1857 unable to confirm this as I wasn't able to track down marriage lines.(I use 1837 on line) They had 3 children Frederick born 1857  Aston, Duddeston, Warwick, living at 260 Great Lister Street Aston.(birth cert.) Martha 1859 born Liverpool and John Henry Terry 1863, my Great Great Grandad.
From John Henry Terry down to present day via marriage and birth certificates etc I have confirmed all the links.
In tracking John Terry(1822) via all the links used above and occupation(porter) I have established the following:-
1857 as above Aston Birmingham
1861 Liverpool(porter) born London, Mary, Frederick and Martha present.
1871 Liverpool(porter) born London Mary, Frederick, Martha and John Henry Terry present.
1884 on marriage lines of John Henry Terry he was a porter
1901 Liverpool(labourer) born Aston.
The rest is direct links to present day.
In 1851 the only John Terry(1822) I could find was listed as railway porter born
West Hoathly, Sussex, lodger at 30 Pein St. Aston Birmingham which made me wonder?
I hope I haven't offended anybody by saying it is near London, I was born in Lancashire not Merseyside and very proud of it so I can understand. So if I have offended anyone please accept my apologies
Best wishes
Roald

Could you provide us with some more information, Roald, to help us pin him down a bit better - John Terry is a very common name?

West Hoathly is not so close to London that his birthplace would be described as London, and there are at least 13 Astons in England.

I assume you mean Aston in Warwickshire, where in 1861 a John Terry married to Jane was living with his parents-in-law, the Deeleys, (his birthplace given as Birmingham)? In 1881, this John Terry was still living in Aston, in the household of his sister-in-law, Esther Deeley, (birthplace still Birmingham).

The more you can provide us with, the more we can help.

Deborah ;)

Hi Jane
Many thanks for the information you have posted. I will take it and store it, as I am not to sure now, concidering the other reply.
I am new to RootsChat and to be honest I do not know how to repost and to be completely honest I did not even think about what board I was posting on.
But will in the future.
Many thanks for your help
Best wishes
Roald

Hi,
You would have been better off posting the request on the 'requests' board rather than the 'offers' board, that way more people will see it. Can you re-post on the 'requests' board?

On the LDS IG Index there are two John Terry's, one christened 6/1/1828 West Hoathly son of Joseph & Susannah and the other christened 20/1/1828 East Grinstead son of William & Elizabeth. East Grinstead being next to West Hoathly.
Do you have his parents names from his marriage record?

This is the marriage of Joseph & Susanna from the Sussex Marriage Index.

Horsted Keynes, West Sussex, 15 Dec 1810:
 Joseph TERRY
 Susanna TAYLOR, botp (B)
Witnesses, Sarah TERRY Chas CHATFIELD Wm TERRY

And this the possible marriage of William & Elizabeth,

Crawley, West Sussex, 4 Nov 1827:
 William TERRY, widr
 Elizabeth DREWIT, wid botp (B)
 Witnesses, John & Eliz INKPEN

Jane
