Anybody got any idea`s on where I can go from here to find my Bertha.
Even if she was put into an orphanage she would keep her surname? If adopted it would say so on her birth cert surely.
Any help would be appreciated.

Hi
Is there anybody out there that can help me with this.
I have just discovered that my great mother Annie Maddox (nee Murphy) had a daughter, Bertha b 1919 that the family knew nothing of. The reason being I dont think her husband Peter Maddox was the father.
Peter was away fighting in WW1. I have Bertha`s birth cert, (no fathers name given but she was registered with the family name of Maddox).
Apart from her birth I cannot find any other information about her. Bertha was born at Annie`s mothers house in Cranmer St, Liverpool . Maybe Peter didnt want her with the rest of the family and her grandmother brought her up?
I have so far been unable to trace any marriage/death in the name Maddox or Murphy.
There is a marriage for Bertha in Stoke but its not the right one.
Any help would be great

I think I have found Ellen Massey living with husband Samuel in Runcorn 1861 but she lied about her age. I also think Luke Guest is really Luke Massey b Runcorn 1875, taking on the name Guest after his mother married William Guest between 1881 - 1891. On 1891 census William and Ellen are married and living Livepool, Ellens children the Masseys are living with Williams mother Alice Guest in Lymm.
