That was indeed me hinted at by Ruskie above

It only appears when you open a tree on the activity bar ie : Activity : Invite: Find A Tree

Its an opt-in to ''help you with your tree '' ie tidy up the duplicates and point out the issues with your tree

6.6 Fair
You have 4744 possible errors in your tree.
64 Possible duplicates
14 Only tree documentation
4664 No documentation
2 Other possible errors

As noted the 4664 No Docs would be 3rd cousins spouses etc where dates havent been entered

1. Its a money spinner at $XX per month
2. Again its you the purchaser doing their work to provide them with more hints

And yes I know I have errors in my tree but I dont care - its my tree

The Lighter Side / Re: How do I tell them?
« on: Saturday 25 January 25 02:35 GMT (UK)  »
I was contacted by someone viewing my sons tree and pointing out he thought there was a connection along the way

I did some '' quick '' research and wasnt happy with their conclusions and wrote back saying I couldnt see a connection and named the reasons

Their response was '' but no this is where the connection is '' - I did some more looking and still feel there is a missing piece

But I am also quite happy to investigate further using their information - but at my own pace

So yes it may seem I am ignoring them but in reality I am taking a slow approach and working on it in my own time

That may well be the case with some people as well

The Common Room / Re: Ancestry Pro Tools Seminar

I see a new feature was added in a vain attempt at upselling ProTools

I have a 6.6 rating on my tree - it seems I have too many errors to be perfect but if I upgrade I can get rid of duplicates and fix my tree!

I know where my errors are - I mostly couldnt be bothered ( yet ) in filling out birth and death dates for married partners of 33rd cousins 12 times removed

Yes I assume I do have duplicates but I will find them

But sure lets pay more money for Ancestry to use our trees to do their work for them

Ancestral Family Tree DNA Testing / Re: DNA Match for Thickies
« on: Friday 03 January 25 22:11 GMT (UK)  »
I do think everyone has explained it but  my own personal experience might also be helpful

One of the reasons I wanted to take an autosomal test was to check on family whispers - do we have indigenous bloodlines , is my father someone elses child and just a curiosity to discover who I am connected to

On the issue of my father - he is indeed my grandfathers son - matched to close relatives here in Oz

But I have a match with someone who is a match to the sister of my GGGgrandmother Elizabeth Swannell - like you its easier to use the short cut '' I have a DNA match to my GGGG '' but more correctly '' I have a match to someone who the paper trail connects to us both sharing a GGGG ''

Australia Lookups completed / Re: McDonald family
« on: Saturday 28 December 24 15:56 GMT (UK)  »
Hi

Unfortunately I really cant help with Andrew McDonald but I can confirm his widow Ellen married Joseph Whitta as above

The information can be found in Vic BDM when you search their children

Joseph married Emma Teague in 1855 and Emma died in 1862 with 2 children 1 surviving

Joseph then married newly widowed Ellen in 1864 and they had 4 children 3 were registered with Comafort/Comfort and 1 was registered as McDonald

Ellen Whitta b1872 was not married as far as I can see

Ellen Whitta formerly McDonald nee Comafort died in 1883 aged 52 with no family info and no obit only a small notice in Trove regarding her death from liver disease
