Family History Beginners Board / Lost at sea
« on: Wednesday 27 December 17 21:07 GMT (UK)  »
My Great Great Grandfather, Anthony Larkin, whose grave marker is in Round Hill Cemetery in Nova Scotia says that he was lost at sea. He is also listed on the Lost to the Sea Memorial site. Because he died on October 7th 1851 I think he may have gone down with the many who died during the Yankee Gale of 1851 off of Prince Edward Island .... but I can't find any listing of what vessel he may have been on. I know that there are such things as the manifest..... which should list all aboard the ship ... but I don't know if that is left on dry ground in case of a ship wreck or if the manifest is taken on board and thus goes down with the ship.... So my question is ... is their a way of finding out what ship he was on and where he was lost a sea?
Thanks for what ever help you can offer me,

Family History Beginners Board / still born birth
« on: Sunday 01 January 17 21:12 GMT (UK)  »
My relatives are from Nova Scotia... they moved to Massachusetts and later Maine where my Great Aunt had a baby that did not live long after child birth or was not alive at birth....The birth would have occurred around 1931. She was living in Brownfield, Maine at the time. I can find no record of the babies existence. Is this typical of still born births that would have been delivered in a home setting? Are there any tricks out there that would maybe allow me to confirm the birth?
Thanks for any help,

Family History Beginners Board / Original Mayflower families

I was wondering if there is a site that shows who of the original Mayflower passengers married into other original families of the Mayflower?
Thank you,

The Common Room / Re: Elizabeth Jouatt Ivatt Marsh Walker

Thank you Little Nell,
It does seem to point out that Elizabeth Jouatt Ivatt Marsh Walker was not the Elizabeth that was the wife of the Pilgrim Richard Warren....
That does straighten the path a bit.
Thank you,

The Common Room / Elizabeth Jouatt Ivatt Marsh Walker

Elizabeth Walker 1583-1673 married Richard Warren (Mayflower passenger) and both are in my family tree..... just today I saw her name as Elizabeth Jouatt Ivatt Marsh Walker and went to search on line for any information about her and I only found England Ancestry.com with any reference to her... I am sort of at a dead end.... wondered if anyone can tell me anything about her.... and why the long name?
Thanks,

Canada Lookup Request / Re: Nova Scotia Immigrants to 1867 Volume 2
« on: Monday 23 March 15 20:28 GMT (UK)  »
Good Afternoon JJ,
I have been pouring over the links you sent... Some of course I am not sure how the Hopkins' mentions are tied into my clan.... but I can't wait to find out about some of them. The two diaries of Simeon Perkins.... I am thinking of purchasing .... It is funny (or not) what they teach us in history class growing up. We leave school thinking we know a good amount of history and yet I am always surprised how little detail was covered. I remember privateers being granted permission from England to take advantage of who and what ever on the high seas.... but I never pictured it so rampant as Simeon seems to write about.... and it wasn't just the English ... it seemed to be anyone from anywhere.... I want to look into that a little further also. But, the diaries are just amazing. You hear of ship wrecks and a child gone missing..... This has been such a rewarding search.
Thank you

Morning Jacquie,
Very good news... I went on line to see if I could find NS Immigrants Index... but had no luck. I also googled the Diary of Simeon Perkins.... and found that but with no search ability. I went to your earlier email and you said that it was on Ancestry.... I use to have an account with them ... but at the moment it is inactive. Could you tell me how I can find those other references to Elisha Hopkins?
