Hi ATGoldsmith, You may not be aware, but there was at least one family of Manton's in Katanning, Western Australia.  My grandmother was Nellie Manton and her family moved to Katanning from South Australia at some point before the 1920's.  I saw that your man lived in Katanning for many years and that could be the reason why.  Nellie was one of four girls. Very interesting connection.  evanswa

Hi, I'm new to Rootschat.  I found a copied birth certificate of my great-great grandfather not long ago from my dec. father's possessions and decided to search for info re my great-great grandparents, William Ellis and Fanny Thackray. Their son John, I believe, was my paternal grandmother's (Florence Margaretta[Margarita?] Ellis's) father.  John married Maria Shackell, who was of Italian/English descent.  They lived in Subiaco, Western Australia and I think had several children, inc Florence my grandmother.  Florence married William Hayes from Woodside in South Australia and they had nine children.  The name is spelled "Thackray" on the birth certificate that I have, however, I note that spelling of names does seem to be a bit changeable on old documents.  I have more information on John if anyone is interested.  Very pleased to chat with extended family!
