I have a relative who was born In Quebec bacuase her parents who were Scottish were on a ship.  She only stayed in Canada for a few months so was baptised in Scotland.  Her father was a sailor, so slightly different.  Her nationality is British, might be something similar for your relative.  Just simpler in the long run not to get into a complicated story when it was easier to just say born in England.

Hi, do you have a relative in the British civil service around 1900?  If so do you have any suggested links that might help me discover more about my relative?

Thanks

Thanks Daisy for looking for me.  I do have his birth certificate, so he was registered maybe that was all he needed to join, so they didn't keep it.

The Common Room / Civil Service Evidence of Age - look up please

Hi,

I wonder if anyone has a subscription to find my past and could help me out (I subscribe to ancestry, so could look things up in return).

My great-grandfather James Jardine b:1870 in Johnstone by Lockerbie Scotland.  Was in the Civil Service, I know he was in Accra (Ghana) in 1901, 1902, 1904 (from Colonial lists). He died in 1936, on his death certificate he is civil service (retired).

FindMyPast seems to be the only place to look up civil service evidence of age records, I wondered if someone could kindly look him up for me and let me know what they find.

Thanks

Lynda
